I really didn't want to do this, but I think I am going to register at 3 places.
My local friends/family have reasonable access to Target/BRU. The BRU near me is actually a small nook in a TRU. So it's actually not a true BRU.
Target is very accessible to my out of state family that live in a rural area. Target honestly doesn't have much that I want, though. I started an online registry and am grasping at random items like toiletries, and sticking mainly to books.
Amazon is accessible to anyone who is computer savvy, and they have pretty much everything at comparable price.
As long as I avoid MOST duplicates, is registering at 3 stores tacky?
Another question - if you registered for books, did people actually buy them? I really want tons of books but am against implying such.
I did not register for books at all, and we have a TON. Most of it is from MIL though.
I don't think there's anything wrong with registering with all three. However, it sounds like Amazon works best for you. Do you think your crowd will be put off by just registering there?
Just to give you an idea, for my shower in CT, we registered at BRU since it was the only massive baby store that the old folks knew about. I also registered at Buy Buy Baby b/c it had better stuff and it was more convenient for people who were in FL. Most don't know, but Bed Bath and Beyond is under the same ownership as Buy Buy Baby. You can use 20% off coupon at BBB to purchase baby items and ship to you or to the BBB store.
My MOH lives in Seattle but she also had a shower in CT with her family/friends from there. She only registered at Amazon and had no problems with old people purchasing from the registry.

I registered at online only, Amazon and diapers.com, my amazon registry was wiped out, not having a store didn't affect their shopping at all! I. Registered for about 10 books and received them all, plus about 3 More at the shower
choco - I've honestly resisted the Buy Buy Baby site, because the closest one is in NY, and there isn't one anywhere near my out of state family. I do keep hearing such good things about it, though!
I don't see my ILs or parents buying lots of books through the year. I owned like 20 books through the entirety of my childhood, lol.
Have you checked out local baby boutiques? There should be some very cute ones near you, actually.
Don't be afraid to stick to Amazon! Also, check out bookworm.com for books to add to your registry. They have some great prices on books.
Most of the aunts on my husband's side of the family are 80. There's no way I could stick to just Amazon, lol.
I would love to register at Giggle, but I think it's best to stick to chains. I wouldn't want to cause someone to have to drive a few towns over to shop. (Most of the local family is elderly - and wouldn't shop online.)
I started a registry at BRU and they pissed me off, so I shut it down. I then had Target and Amazon. Target pissed me off as well, but that was when they had major site issues and their registries/website were down more often than it was up.
We registered for books but did not receive any. FWIW I didn't have a shower outside of a small one at work. We didn't receive a ton of gifts either-most people just got us gift cards.
I only got a couple of books at my shower, which I was surprised by since I'm friends with a lot of bookworms! I would have registered for them had I known.
Nothing wrong with 3 registries if that's what's convenient for your guests. I had 2, but I live in an area with a lot of stores. I only had the 2nd (BRU) because of my out-of-state people. BBB was my main one.
I also had a secret Amazon registry (open only to me) where I doubled everything I had on BBB + BRU. So anything I didn't get at my shower I was able to buy on Amazon for cheaper plus their 10% registry discount! It was the only way to get my City Mini GT at a discount and no taxes!
I had books on my registry but received very few of them. I received almost all clothes at one shower, a few large items on my registry at another (friends went in on the big stuff), and my co-workers gave me a large gift card to help with registry completion.

I know everyone on here loves books and they are great but for a baby, you dont need 10,0000 different books. Board books are great when they can hold them, but when they are very small, you can read 50Shades of Gray to them. And even as she is older and loves to "read" books and have them read to her, she has a lot but sticks to the same ones. And as others said, books multiply. It is crazy. We spilled water on 5-10 of her books, tossed them out and she still has 30 books. I have only bought her 3-4 books. I got 3 books at the shower.
I purchased a lot of classic children's books over the last few years as I found them on sale. We read a book at bedtime every night and dh and I like variety We also go to the library often and bring home books. Good way to "try before you buy"
Why not just do a universal registry on Amazon? You can link to any store.
You're still forced to shop online, and the vast majority of those attending my shower (elderly family) won't be able to even access Amazon's website.
I was going to suggest this too. You could also use Amazon and keep it private and if you don't receive something then add it. Use their coupon code at the end and have everything shipped to your house so you don't have go to a store to for completion. Most of the prices on Amazon would be cheaper for you for completion anyway.
If most of your family is older that will be attending I would stick to a store close to them so it is easier for them to shop.
