DH and I often go on weekend dates to the bookstore, and tend to leave with a children's book. We already own a handful of the popular Dr. Seuss titles. But recently I bought one I had never seen before. It's called "There's a Map on My Lap". I love it. The book talks about what maps are used for, and tries to familiarize you with terms found on maps and in travel.
We were at Universal in FL a month or two ago and in the middle of their Dr. Seuss exhibit, there's a huge store full of Dr. Seuss books. I was overwhelmed seeing all of these titles I was not familiar with. Many of which were more geared towards learning than purely cute stories. I didn't realize they had an entire learning series!
I've snagged a few Mo Willems books, too, and those really crack me up.
ETA: What are your favorite Dr. Seuss titles that aren't super popular?

I really really like " my many colored days". It's very cute and catchy and was really instrumental in helping dd identify her moods. It's my favorite toddler gift book.
I am seriously getting rid of our 2 Dr. Seuss books (Fox in Sox and One Fish Two Fish), I hate them that much, lol. SO long and the rhyming/weird words gets old really fast. Cat in the Hat makes me RAGEY, it is in my top 3 most hated books (Giving Tree and Velveteen Rabbit round it out)
we LOVE Mo Willems books though, especially the Pigeon books and Knuffle Bunny series.
Like: Green Eggs and Ham, Oh The Places You'll Go, How The Grinch Stole Christmas Can't tolerate: The Butter Battle Book (liked it as a kid, but yikes when I read it again as an adult), Horton
As a kid, I'm pretty sure I liked them all. Now, I agree with pp's, they can be annoying. However, my kids love them in all their rhymey/ sing-songy glory.
I don't love any of them. They're kind of annoying to read. I'm a big Bonton fan.
I'm so glad someone else feels this way. I hated Green Eggs and Ham as a kid, and now all the Dr. Suess books make me insane. I've hidden them away. Why the heck are they so long?!? After like 2 pages, I'm done reading them and in a bad mood. I tried, I really did.
Team Boynton. Short, sweet, simple, and the kids love them.
I can't handle One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. I skip pages by the tens when I read that book to DD. It's just too freaking long. I also skip all the repetitive parts of Green Eggs and Ham where they just reiterate all the places the guy already said he won't eat the food. I am not sure what I'll do when DD is old enough to notice everything we're skipping but seriously, those books give me a headache.
Cat in the Hat is long but entertaining since she can "read" half of it along with us.
I love Sandra Boynton and Mo Willems. DD also got a Pete the Cat book for Christmas and LOVES it. Another recent favorite here along the lines of Dr. Seuss is Put Me In The Zoo, but I have a soft spot for it because it was my favorite as a kid. Go Dog Go is also a good one.
I'm not a Seuss fan. They are just too damn long. Even when I have to do a Seuss story time I only read brief selections from certain titles. I too love Mo Willems.
Yeah, sorry. Spelling is not my strong point. Get her boxed sets AND snuggle puppy. Dd is actually very picky about her books. Those and picture-word books are always favorites.

DH reads DD her Dr. Seuss books. He LOVES them. I hate them. Way too long and I stumble over all the repetitive stuff.
We have most of the Sandra Boynton books and I love those. Costco has an 8 book boxed set for like $15 which is a good deal if anyone is looking for them.

Ha! You tend to have good suggestions so for a minute I was all "yay, new author to check out!"
I just bought a few Mo Willems books, and some Sandra Bonyton board books. Amazon has a promotion where you can "buy 4 for the price of 3". I didn't realize until I was checking out, so I made sure that all 8 of the books I had in my cart qualified. (One of them didn't at first.)
Books are crossed off my list now. I feel like I have a decent amount for a good while.
I'm so happy I came on here for suggestions! I went from having mostly Dr. Seuss in my cart down to 0. (We have 5 or so already.) I realized I needed some shorter stores and board books at first, so now I'm set!
ds LOVES dr seuss, i unfortunately hate most of them. one fish, two fish has long been hidden in my house because i simply cannot tolerate it. it is about 50 pages too long. i don't mind the foot book - one of his favorites.
I have my copy of The Sleep Book and fond memories of my dad reading it to me at bedtime. My dad passed away 5 years ago, and I know that I'll continue the tradition of reading it to my little one, but probably not until he/she is pre-school aged.
Sometimes Seuss will go on sale. They had a 3 for 2 sale a few weeks before Christmas on Amazon. I'd check them out around Seuss's birthday for another.
I'm a sucker for the 4 for 3 deal. I always end up getting another book or two to get it.

I guess my husband is the only one who loves One Fish, Two Fish. Everyone can send their copies to my house so we can have one in every room of our house hahaha

Most Dr. Seuss books drive me batty, but we read There's a Wocket in My Pocket multiple times a day during our daughter's first year and I still love it. Definitely my favorite.

I hate The Sleep Book. It is too freaking long. I always skip at least half of it. I agree that I think much of Seuss is for older kids. I'm pretty meh on most Dr. Seuss, with the exception of Green Eggs and Ham.
