I've been coughing up a storm all day. It feels like someone is stabbing my lungs, I'm short of breath, and breathing and coughing are very painful. The coughs are dry. I would usually take some cough syrup and call it a day, but I'm not sure which are safe or if there are bigger issues being sick and pregnant.
I haven't had my first OB appt yet (next week). Should I call my PCP or is it ok to try and treat at home?
Do you have a humidifier? I would try that first as you say it's a dry cough. That might be what's making the coughing/breathing painful.
If you call your OB's office they can tell you what is safe to take OTC, as can the pharmacist at your local drugstore. They may also have good advice on whether or not you should see your PCP in person.
If you call your PCP they will likely want to see you in person if it sounds like you have a bug/virus, and would probably defer to your OB on which meds to take.
I've had a humidifier going for the past few days. Shower didn't seem to help. I don't own a thermometer, but feel a bit warm. I'll buy one in the morning and talk to the pharmacist about meds/their opinion while I'm picking it up. Thanks!
Per my OB regular old robitussin (no DM) is fine, but I'd also call yours to be sure. It's fine to call for advice before your first appt. feel better!!
