I've gotten rid of a lot, but I have a bunch more. I need to lose at least 30lbs (more like 50, but I can't even think of that right now). I have lots of clothes that don't fit. Clothes that may not fit even if I lose 30 lbs. The problem is that they are nicer clothes (suits and such). Should I get rid of them and just buy more when I actually lose the weight? Right now, we have very limited closet space. So, it is hard to justify keeping them. But, it is also hard to think about spending the money on new clothes when the stuff I have will fit if I lose weight.

I'd go through and only keep the ones I really love. Nothing would be worse than working hard to lose 30lbs then having to wear old, dated clothes you don't love.
If you are actively losing the weight, keep them. Otherwise, if it's just a wish, give them away and then reward yourself with new clothes when you do lose the weight.

i agree with this. even if you lose weight, if you don't like the clothes you will just be debating keeping them later.
I am actively trying to lose weight. I just signed up for 2 classes in the local town over. They start the 6th and 9th of January (Zumba and Hatha Yoga). I also have a gym membership and am committing to going to the gym at least once a week (on top of the 2 classes).
I looked and the only suit that is really just way too small (size 8) is getting donated. I'd have to lose like 50lbs for that bad boy to fit and I just don't need that kind of pressure right now. The other suits and dresses are a bit bigger. So, I'll put those in a bin for right now and then will pull them out once my other clothes start feeling big (which will take at least 15lbs). If they are not fitting after that, I'll donate them to the local Dress for Success program.
I usually look at each piece and think "if this fit and I was looking at it in a store, would I buy it right now?" if I don't like it enough to buy again, I get rid of it.

I'd probably keep the more expensive pieces like suits but donate the things that can be replaced like shirts and cardigans. It took me a long time to get rid of my jeans from college (mostly bke brand) but once I was that weight I didn't like the fit.
I finally got rid of a bunch of small clothes, then I lost 35 pounds. I decided it was like people getting rid of all their baby stuff, then accidentally getting pregnant.
I agree, I'd keep expensive suits, etc, that you really like, but you might not even like the fit or style of a lot of it anymore once you do lose weight.

Sell the clothes. Use the money to buy clothes that fit you now. It's important to feel great when you get dressed right now. Makes the weight loss goals not seem so lofty and things suck less.

I'd sell at consignment or donate - at least most of it. I only keep things that I can actively imagine wearing again. I look at an item and go "would I buy this, even at Goodwill? Would I regret not having this later?" I also take item quality into account. If it was a $100 sweater, I'm more likely to consider keeping it.
