Has anyone ever moved a chandelier over so that it was centered correctly? If so, what does the finished product look like? Did you "swag" it over, or redo the wiring so that you could hang the whole thing in the correct place?
We had one in our condo - I swagged it. Ideally I would have liked it moved, but I wasn't interested in hiring an electrician to move the junction box and patch the ceiling when we were only planning on being there a couple of years. If it was in my house, I'd probably have it moved.

Heather- when you swagged it, did it look fine? Jason says swagging a chandelier is common and lots of people do it but I'm still afraid it will look weird. Also, was it hard to do? Truth be told, we have a handy man guy who is kind of a family friend so he can just do it for us. But if we're already paying him, I wonder if he should just move the whole thing.

We've looked at a lot of houses in our day (up north and down here) and swagging is very common. It's not my favorite look, but I'll be the first to say I'm biased because I've worked for a lighting company for 13+ years That said, I think it's usually the "best" option.
I've installed my fair share of lighting fixtures, and moving a junction box (the metal frame that holds the wires, and supports the light fixture) in the ceiling is a much bigger task then swagging. The other thing to keep in mind is that when you move the junction box you then have a six-ish inch hole in the ceiling that needs to be patched.
I don't know what kind of texture you have on your ceilings, but if it's not patched and painted in a way that matches your existing texture the patch is going to stand out a whole lot more than a swag. (The white of most ceiling paint tends to change a bit over the years, and can be impossible to match)
By the way - very exciting that you have changes coming to your house. I hope you love them!!
This situation is still driving me crazy. I keep looking online for pictures of chandeliers that were swagged and look nice. There are almost none. How does this not exist on the internet?? Uggggggggggggghhhh

It's so funny you posted this last week as we bought a new kitchen table and our chandelier in the breakfast nook will now need to be moved or swagged. I would never have noticed, but now I will. ha.

Let me know what you end up doing! Do you think you'll swag it?
