What do you think of it so far? Have you (or will you) reach your reading goal for the year?
...
Nook Color: A Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. I'm only about 50 pages in so I don't have an opinion on it yet. I'm still trying to keep all the characters straight.
Hardcover: Spell Bound (Hex Hall #3) by Rachel Hawkins. I just started this as well. I mildly enjoyed the other books in the series so we'll see about this one.
I just finished 51 books toward my goal of 50. I think this is the first year I've ever met, let alone surpassed, my goal. Last year I read 63 books, but my goal had been 75. I think I was a bit more realistic this year.
Still working on Lost Antarctica by James McClintock, which is really interesting but depressing -- here's all this amazing stuff you'll never see, because it will all have melted away before you can afford the trip! Also reading The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R. King, which is fun and much lighter.
My goal was 112 and I've read 116, so I did quite well. I like having number goals because it gives me a reason to choose reading over random web surfing and tv watching!
Midnight Risisng by Tony Horwitz. It's really well written but I feel like it's a little hollow due to the narrow subject, so not as fab as his other stuff.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain

I'm still working on Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness. It didn't get interesting until halfway through, and I could've done without the first part entirely. But I should finish it this weekend.
I also read Suri's Burn Book by Allie Hagan. It's basically the blog expanded - and if you enjoy the blog, you will like the book. It took less than a couple of hours to read.
I just picked up Reached, the finale of the Matched trilogy by Ally Condie, from the library. I'm the first one to borrow it, which is kind of exciting.
I met my goal of 75 books (SON will be #91) for the year.
I'm about 1/5 of the way through A Prayer for Owen Meany and I really like it so far. As far as my progress for the year I am a bit behind (20 of 25). Life just keeps holding me back!

I finished that a couple of days ago. I'll be curious to see what other people think. I didn't love it. I actually thought about skipping most of it and flipping to the end.
I'm reading The Midwife by Jennifer Worth, which is the book Call the Midwife is based on. So far, it's very similar to the show, but it's good.
My goal for the year was 70, and if I finish TM this weekend (which I should), I'll have read 74. I think next year, I'm going to skip the numerical challenge and go with something else. Maybe one classic I haven't read per month, or something.
Audiobook - Eat, Pray, Love - I feel like the last person to read this one. It's ok so far. Gilbert narrates it and I love her voice, though.
Nook - a) This Book is Overdue! - about libraries and librarians. I'm not one, but it's interesting to get more insight into what they do/how libraries are run. b) And Baby Makes Three. H and I will likely TTC later this year. Frankly, we're terrified (in a good way, I think?) and I'm dealing with my anxiety by reading up on the topic.
I've already met my goal of 115 books; I've read 118 so far and will probably get one more done before YE.
I have completely lost track of the day of the week, so here I am.
I'm reading The Bronze Horseman. I will be stoned for this, but I'm not loving it (I'm over 2/3 of the way through). I can see why so many people think it's amazing, and it is good, but I never have much patience with teenage-girl "read my mind and do the impossible" nonsense. And then there's everyone dying. And my annual bout with SAD is kicking in.
I need to go look at pictures of beagle puppies or something, I think.

I didn't love TBH either. It was great in the beginning, but then it just got repetitive. I ended up skipping a bunch when they were in the village or whatever - it was just them having sex the same way 300 times. Meh. I also really thought Alexander was an asshole, so that didn't help. (Yes, I know, product of his time/circumstances. But I still found him to be a giant asshole, which made him not at all romantic to me.)

**Spoilers** (not major ones) . . . . Yeah, Lazarevo got repetitive. I mean, it was nice and all, but definitely repetitive. After all of the repetitive hiding everything amid grisly death for 400 pages, though, I was just relieved.
I have about 50 pages to go and the post-Lazarevo stuff has actually been pretty good, though Tatiana is still driving me up a wall half the time. Alexander bugs me, too, but not as much as she does. I was ranting to my husband last night that I prefer Jamie and Claire because they are crazy in love with each other AND they still manage to have sense. Well, most of the time. There were definitely moments in DIA, especially, when I wanted to choke them both.

I have downloaded 11/22/63. I will start reading it tonight. After all the recommendations from this board and CEP, I'm really looking forward to it. Here's hoping it elevates me out of my reading funk.
