DS is almost 8 months and still a shitty night sleeper. I'm wondering if he is getting enough to eat during the day because sometimes he nurses quite a bit in the middle of the night.
I try to feed him 3x per day. Morning is about 1/4 cup of cereal (ie rice or oat) and maybe 1/8 cup of fruit. He doesn't always eat it all.
Lunch I try do to some protein like pieces of turkey, or yogurt, and some veggies. He likes peas, carrots, etc.
Dinner I do another carb and some veg or fruit. Sometimes he will have mum-mum's (he LOVES them) with avocado or something on them.
overall he doesn't eat that much per meal - maybe 1/3 cup total? Is this adequate?
He nurses when he wakes around 730, before nap at 10, 1, 4 and then before bed at 630. So at least 5 times, probably 4-5oz? That's a guess. I guess 20oz or more total. Sometimes he has an extra bottle around 12 or 2.
Is he hungry when he wakes up? What happens if you don't feed him?
I have a rule with night wakings - if it's been more than 3 hours since he last nursed, I go in and nurse and he typically goes back down. If its been shorter than that H is in charge. This has worked well and he typically wakes up around 230 and then again at 4 (goes down at 7). H takes care of him at 4 am but it usually involved DS just babbling for a half hour so we just let him go. He is up usually around 630 or 7 for the day.
DS nurses at 7 am (whenever he wakes up), has oatmeal and fruit at 8 am or so, then nurses every two hours after that and eats dinner around 6. Nurses again at 7. So probably just 5 or 6 nursing sessions during the day. I think he gets about 5 oz. session, maybe more. I tried working in another nursing session but it didn't make a difference.
My baby refused solids until about 9 months, and she still doesn't take much. She nurses every 3-4 hours, and goes longer stretches at night (but she does still wake 1-2 x/ night) I assume she gets enough because she is chubby and mostly happy. I guess this doesn't help you at all :/ It would be nice if eating more = sleeping better, but that hasn't been the case with my babies.
