I hope I wake up to an alive breathing baby. I wanted to see if she would sleep longer. But now I'm nervous. She is 3.5 months old and has excellent head control. I'm sure she will be fine. She better be!
Tomorrow is my birthday. Maybe I should flip her to her back, if she dies from SIDs I wouldn't want it to be on my birthday. I'm so dramatic.
Dude, Freddie sleeps on his stomach pretty much exclusively. I was militant about Edith sleeping on her back, and as soon as she could flip over, she never slept on her back again. Freddie has great head control too, and I'm not worried about him at all. Although he sleeps in the bassinet right next to me and I'm a super light sleeper, so that might have something to do with it.
I'm sure she'll be fine to sleep on her stomach. My girls like being on their stomachs, but they sleep best swaddled so they're on their backs. Once they start rolling in the swaddle and we can't swaddle anymore I think we'll start putting them on their stomachs. Honestly I tend to use what the doctor says as just a guideline (for stuff like this). They just seem so extreme in their advice - probably to avoid lawsuits - that it seems impossible to follow it all.
I put DS on his stomach when he was a few weeks old and we both slept better after that. He was a belly sleeper from the start and after I listened to his cues he was a much happier baby.

Most babies DO sleep better/longer on their tummies. Which is why, in part, SIDS is more of an issue for tummy sleepers- it's harder for them to wake up. Obviously, each parent has to make the call on what they're comfortable with, but as mrdob mentioned, the more than 50% reduction in SIDS deaths since the start of the BTS campaign is hard to ignore. I also agree that saying "We did it and we're fine" is hooey. Plenty of people were not fine as the result of -insert thing that we used to do but no longer should because it's been shown to be less safe-.

yeah, i'm with dobalina and emilie here. there is a reason there is a back to sleep campaign, and its hard to ignore the data that set that off.
i think its a different thing when they are rolling on their stomachs to sleep, because you really can't control that. though i would flip my kids over to their backs when they rolled over, but i am paranoid like that.
Thanks for the thoughts. I think I'll abandon the stomach sleeping idea. She does pretty good on her back. Just thought I'd try something new, but its not worth it. She'll probably be rolling soon anyways.
