How long was she in? I don't know how visits work in your area but supervising isn't scary, it's nice to get to know the other mom. If visits are supervised for you it can be easier time-wise but nerve wracking not knowing what's going on.
What is the current plan/what do the CSW and lawyer want to happen? Have you filed for de facto parent status? Google it, different states have different requirements but it will give you better standing in court.
She was in for 7.5 months. There is no plan that I know of. We're on our 4th case worker, and she's totally over worked. I don't know what defacto parent status is, I'll look it up. Thank you.
The plan, as I understand it, was to wait until she got out to see what happened next. I have no idea what the lawyer wants to happen... Should I? We've never been in contact. I hate this! I just wish we had a fcm that we trusted.
We speak with the lawyers sw at least once a month to give updates and get info on the case, I like her much better than asw, she keeps me in the loop.
I'm going to guess that they will probably give bio mom services (classes, etc.) and visits and see how she does, this is what typically happens during the reunification phase, if she shows up late/misses visits or classes consistently they will probably change the plan to adoption but this could take awhile. See if you can talk to the lawyer or lawyers sw, or if you have your own lawyer ask them to get ahold of the lawyer for you so you know the status of the case and what the plan is.
dont stress about not having talked to the attorney, ect. From what I've gathered, CA is far and above what other states offer in terms of foster parent involvement. We didn't speak to our kids' attorney for over a year. I mean, by all means, ask questions and push for answers, but dont be discouraged if you dont get any answers (or calls back...sigh...) - its just the archaic system.
Even when the papers say the goal is "reunification" the caseworkers are usually supporting a "secondary goal" at the same time. Aka adoption. They need to offer biomom a bunch of services , partly a CYA issue.
