What I want to do: - Get out of work really early to enjoy a few hours home alone to clean. - order a bunch of random take out - picnic in the living room, in pjs, let the kids stay up as long as they last watching the ball drop around the world - snuggle
What will really happen: - Work, boo - Rushed daycare pick ups - figure something out for dinner - bundle up the kids to go stand outside, walk in a crowded parade, and watch fireworks in foot-deep snow (a tradition that my parents started and I despise). deal with at least 1 meltdown from Daisy because she's "fweeezin" - wrestle overtired icicle children into bed then pass out from exhaustion
I hunted for things to do that weren't outside because I didn't want to listen to Carter complain about being cold. The child complains about being cold while sitting in our house in fleece pjs, so I wasn't about to subject him (and us) to him the whining that I know would occur.
We are going to Medieval Times again. We went last year, the kids loved it, it was at a good time (6:30pm) since I have to work all day and the kids were up at 5:45am, and I got discounted tickets from Goldstar. It isn't my dream NYE (your dream NYE sounds good, CT) but L didn't want to "sit at home."
My parents watched the babies earlier while we went out for cheap sushi and saw Les Mis. Now I am here! :-P
We watched the ball drop at 9pm (it's weird being on the west coast!), and then Jen went to bed. I don't think I've ever missed being up at midnight, and I'm not going to start now. So I am catching up on some emails, etc. and then will see if they show anything on TV at midnight here.

Well it's New Year's Day but I thought I'd join in.
What I wanted to happen: a great party somewhere, or a romantic and fabulous meal out. NYE was always a big deal for me before M and I started dating and I miss that.
What actually happened: we picked up Wendy's and a bottle of champagne on the way home from picking M up from work, watched Netflix and went to bed by 10:30pm. I'm trying not to be too disappointed but I'm pretty bummed that's how I ushered in 2013.
We played a board game with DW's family and drank too much (just us, family doesn't drink), ha. We went to see the movie of Les Mis earlier in the day, and then FIL decided we should listen to the whole soundtrack when we got home. We watched the delayed broadcast of Times Square at midnight central time for about 2 minutes. Then DW and I kissed and toasted and said good riddance to an awful year and tried to remember the few non crappy parts of it.
Last night I went to bed at about 8:45, but then was woken up by Katie at 11:45 saying she couldn't get the baby to sleep, and could I please take a turn? I rocked the baby and watched the ball drop at midnight. First time I kissed a boy on NYE in a long ass time! :-) Then I put him down at about 12:30 and we all slept until 6:30. It was a pretty awesome way to start the year!

MK--that is seriously adorable. Love it!
A and I spent the long weekend together and on NYE we went to Deception Pass on Whidbey Island nearby--one of my favorite places to visit in any season and this time was not to disappoint. We spent the day catching a few rays in the super cold and a little time on the beach followed by watching a pink/orange sunset on the snowcapped North Cascades we could see from the bridge...bliss. We stopped for dinner on the way home and were cuddled up on the couch at midnight.
