I haven't stayed there but I have been there and I have stayed at several cheap places nearby. My DH and his friends are of the mindset that you only need a hotel room to sleep and you barely sleep in Vegas and don't need to be right on the strip. For my friends and family, I insist we stay somewhere nicer. I've been to Vegas with a lot of groups and in your situation I would probably just stay there unless you don't mind missing out in spontaneous group activities or you plan on spending a lot of time in your room.
This is what I was thinking, but the dirtiness concerns me.
We can get a room for $33 a night. Tropicana next door is $140 a night. I don't particularly like the MGM Grand rooms. But I'd stay there again if I got a great deal.

Tropicana sucks, too.
The Tropicana just underwent a huge renovation. The place is remarkably different that it used to be. I haven't stayed there but we are looking into it for our next trip. It also just got absorbed into the Hilton chain.
It's certainly not the Wynn but I don't think you'll end up a skin suit if you stay there. DH and I stayed there last year and it wasn't that bad. Yes, it's cheap but I wanted to spend our money on nice dinners out (not at the Hooters lol) and bar hopping.
We've actually stayed there twice. The first room was better than this last time. It wasn't as clean as the first time around but oh well.
We've also stayed at the Tropicana and it was nice. I'm cheap when it comes to rooms though. Who goes to Vegas to sleep??
I like how everyone assumes she's afraid her husband will see titties. lol
OP, you can get much nicer rooms at comparable prices using Priceline or Hotwire.
Seriously. It's a shitty hotel in a shitty location. Don't stay there. I guarantee that if you posed your question as "I'm going to Vegas- should I stay at Hooters?" you'd be getting plenty of responses of how awful it is and stay somewhere else.
If I go back to Vegas I'm staying at someplace smoke free. I smoked for ten years so you'd think it wouldn't bother me but I could not STAND the smell of the casinos. I wanted to die. And I stayed at the Bellagio so I thought it would be nice. So anyway I'd keep looking.
When I went to Vegas with the girls a few years ago we stayed in the Flamingo which I think is in a great spot right on the strip. The hotel is def older, though they've updated a number of rooms and the pool is amazing. The rooms were very clean in my opinion and frankly quite spacious too. More then I was expecting. I would absolutely stay there again. I just checked the rates and depending when you're going and what days of the week you'll be there the rates seem pretty reasonable.

My H and I stayed there for 2 nights for $49 back a couple years ago. I had no issues with it at all - I actually liked the decor of the rooms, they were bright and light. Minimal amenities, pretty small overall hotel and a stones throw off the strip, but H and I would stay there again for the right price. All we needed was a bed and a shower - the rest of the time we were out of the room. I had no issues with it being Hooters.
