We got a call this past saturday at 4 in the afternoon. I was at work. I recognized the number and answered right away with overly joyous tone. However, sadly this baby was not our baby. We had to allow another family to parent her. It is still fun to get the call.
I had given our SW a list of numbers for DH and me, and the priority she should use to call them. I assumed I'd be the most readily available, and DH would never be near a phone.
When we got The Call, I was in a useless time-suck meeting, and missed all attempts to contact me. DH, on the other hand, answered on the first ring. Our SW asked him if he wanted to be a dad
When I got back from my meeting, my phone was ringing, but I finished a conversation with our editor, thinking it wasn't important. I checked my e-mail (still have it) to see one from DH. Subject line? "Call me we got placed. It's an emergency"
I called him and got the details he'd gotten from our SW. My boss walked in to ask a question and I told him the news. I think at some point I cried. I called the SW for more details, then tried to work the rest of the day while coordinating meetings, etc.
The first time, I was in the bathroom getting ready for a half day of work and a long Memorial Day weekend of camping with friends! We still went camping the first night, but had to leave early to pick up our daughter
The second time, I was at home with our daughter when I got the call!

I was in the law library at the courthouse where we aren't even supposed to have phones on, but no way was I not going to be glued to the phone when I knew we were being considered for a situation. I ducked behind an aisle of books to answer, but then squealed when our consultant told me we were picked. When everyone turned to look at me, I had a huge grin plastered on my face and loudly blurted out that we were just picked to adopt a baby. I didn't even take notice of their reactions but I probably seemed like a crazy person, lol. I then went into a conference room to call DH and then my parents and best friend.
DH and I took the rest of the day off work and met at Babies R Us to register. (while we were registering, we got a call that she was in labor, wanted us there, and to book our plane tickets from Atl to Vegas ASAP - bit that is a whole other story!)
