here is the press release regarding the event: MOMS PREPARE FOR NATION-WIDE HOLLISTER STORE NURSE-IN
Moms across the United States plan to peacefully nurse their babies in Hollister stores around the country this Saturday to show support for Houston area mother who was harassed by store manager for breastfeeding her daughter in public. Participants hope to promote education and create awareness for every mother's right to feed their baby however, whenever and wherever she chooses.
Houston area moms, and as well as individual supporters and breastfeeding advocacy groups throughout the United States, are joining together this Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 3:00 PM in Hollister stores in a reaction to a store manager's harassment of nursing mom Britney Warfeild as she breastfed her seven month old daughter on a bench just outside their Galleria store. Warfeild was publicly embarrassed and asked to leave the Hollister location for breastfeeding her daughter despite Texas Health Code, Section 165.002, which authorizes a woman to breastfeed her child in any location.
“No mother should ever feel that way. Breastfeeding needs to be supported and encouraged to ensure a nursing mother's success. It is also our right as women to nurse in public” says Aleta McVey, breastfeeding mother and Hollister Nurse-In organizer. Participating women hope that, by coming together to nurse their babies in malls across America, they will encourage companies such as Hollister to provide better training for their employees regarding a mother's right to breastfeed her baby in public as well as support the statewide movement toward changing Texas legislation to include legal ramifications for individuals who harass nursing mothers.
The main nurse-in will take place at the Hollister store in the Houston Galleria, 5085 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77056-5673, where the incident occurred.
