Lurker here - My DD is 11 months old, and I'd like to stop pumping in order to use up my freezer stash as I begin to wean. If I did this, I'd only nurse her once in the morning and once at night.
I'm looking for stories of other people who tried this and what the result was - did your supply dry up or were you able to maintain a twice/day schedule?
Well, I'm back at work now (with a 1 year old) and not pumping, but we're not down to 2 x a day. He nurses a bunch when I get home until bed, and then we're still part time co-sleeping and nursing overnight. I can forsee this working indefinitely, as far as supply goes. He's still getting a lot of his nutrition from milk, and he's going through some separation anxiety, so I'm not ready to force the night weaning situation.
If you're only nursing twice a day, it might work for months or it might work for just a few weeks. If you're ready to wean, try it out and see how it goes. If you're happy nursing twice, it will still provide some great benefits to your child without the burden of pumping at work.
I am currently nursing my 14 month old twice a day once in the morning and once right before bed. Most of the time it is great but some days like today he was not interested at all. i know there is still milk there because some days he is latched on for about 10 minutes. I have been doing the twice a day since 11 months and will continue to offer the breast twice a day.
I gave up pumping at 14 months and now nurse DS (22 months) mornings, evenings and weekends.
I still nurse on demand, but it's not about supply anymore. My supply stayed a little strong for a few months, but eventually it dwindled. Now, my boobs never fill full. It's a little uncomfortable when he has a shallow latch.
I would be happy if DS would wean, but I'm not going to force the issue. I follow the old weaning adage. Don't offer, don't refuse. If DS wants to nurse, then I will let him, but I don't actively encourage it.

I did this and it worked great. I started weaning my pumping sessions from twice during the workday down to zero over the course of about 2 weeks, and that was comfortable for me. I probably could have gone faster, but I didn't want to deal with engorgement or leaking. I've been nursing my DD first thing in the morning and right before bed for about 3 months now. She may be ready to drop the night feeding, and some nights does refuse, but I'll keep offering until she consistently refuses.
Good luck on whatever you choose to do. I know it always seemed like such a big decision whenever I changed my routine, but looking back, I always think it wasn't such a big deal after all!
