DS has started his head back while still latched. Sometimes he unlatches when he does this, sometimes he doesn't. Either way it hurts.
Any idea why he would be doing this & how to get him to stop. Right now I hold my hand behind his head so he has room to move & adjust but can't pull back so far that it hurts.
He always does it when he's really alert, so I think he's just trying to look around. I don't think it's a sign that he wants to stop because if he unlatches he quickly moves his head closer & relatches himself.
He is definitely being distracted by what's going on around him. Can you try to minimize distractions? Maybe dim the lights or pull the shades and nurse with no one else around if possible. No noise - TV, radio? etc.

Ugh, I know exactly what you are talking about! All 3 of my kids did this around 4-5 months and then stopped (well, my daughter is 5 1/2 months and still does it occasionally). I think it is just a normal phase that a breastfed baby goes through. They are starting to notice more of the world around them. I agree with pp, try to reduce distraction in the room. Good luck!
