I would love to hear what works for you or what hasn't worked for you. Did you (or plan to) do one child at a time or both together? What do you think of the three-day method?
Daycare puts them on the potty several times a day and DS1 has been pretty successful. He is currently wearing pull-ups. I put him on the potty in the evening and he goes. He only pooped once on the potty. This weekend we are going to try underwear on him and see how he does.
DS2 will sit on the potty but will not go. I think he is scared of it. We just keep encouraging and use praise and rewards. He says he wants to stay in diapers.
First of all, get 2 potty chairs! I thought we could do with a potty seat that fit on the toilet and it didn't work. When I tried to potty train them at the same time, one of the boys peed on the floor.
I had to train them at different times. Matthew as able to be potty trained at 3 years and 4 months and Jon at 3 years and 6 months. I had to use different approaches as well. I told Matthew I wasn't letting him use diapers and he was able to go on his own. Jon had to be put on the toilet every 20 minutes.
For us going poo was harder than going pee on the toilet. Matthew had a medical problem so I'm not going to count him on things. Jon was ok but Chris *my singleton* mastered poop on the toilet about 6 weeks after he did pee.

we're doing the 3-day at the end of June after the twins turn 3. We've been talking up being "big boys who wear underwear and use the potty when you are 3yo!" for a while.
Gibby almost PT'd himself back in Oct/Nov - he was in underwear most of the time- then went backwards and had no interest- so we put him back in pullups since we didn't want him PT'd before Disney anyway, lol. Now he goes on the potty at school all the time (not poop though) and NEVER goes when he's home! I jsut found this out actually... so he has total control over it.
Gary has zero desire... so i think it will be hard when we do the 3-day with him, and he might not be ready ... we'll find out.
2 potty chairs for sure.
3-day method worked wonders for my older son -- it clicked for him on day 3 and he never went back. He was a week over 3yo.
Thanks for all of the tips and advice! I might just focus my efforts on James b/c he is so into it and has been very successful. Connor has started to watch James with interest when he is going so maybe it will catch on for him.
I have the next 3 days off but my husband will be gone for most of it...I can't attempt "3-day" alone but I will have more time to work on PTing.
Gail - very funny about Disney. Diapers are a PIA but running to find a potty especially when they are new to it does not sound fun either!
We did 3 Day PT with both boys in early March. Will was showing interest, Alex wasn't, but we decided to bring Alex along for the ride and see what would happen and he's actually done very well! He's now 100% diaper-free whereas Will still won't poop in the potty (usually) and still wears a pull-up or diaper for sleeping.
Our kids will only be turning 2 in August, so we're not thinking about serious PT yet, but when did you introduce them to the concept of potty chairs? They're starting to tell us when they need a diaper change (though not reliably) so we're thinking about getting the chairs soon just for kicks.
I'm glad to see everyone taking their time on potty training. I had a co-worker urge me to get my kids started at 18 months. I just bought a couple of potty chairs and a toilet seat with he little one attached. We encourage them to sit on those and talk about what they're for but no big attempts yet. Maybe this summer.

I'm glad to hear your no interest child did well! I pray gray does that. I could totally see Gibby being a pain about poop forever.
most recently we did a 3 day refresher pting weekend (about 2 months ago) and since then the girls have been completely pee trained when awake. they each have only pooped on the potty twice. av doesn't care where she poops - underwear, pullup, floor - she will go anywhere EXCEPT the potty. M waits to poop when we put her a pullup for the nite.
when we did the original 3 day potty weekend the girls did great for pee by the 3rd day, but not for poop. and from there we had issues with dcp's support, so there you are.
ps. like others have said - def need 2 potty chairs, we started with just one and it was not a good scene when they both wanted to actually go.
Gail, yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by how well Alex has done. I think his sort of OCD traits come in handy b/c he doesn't like being messy! Whereas Will's more high-energy and doesn't want to stop playing long enough to pee ... not sure what his deal is about not wanting to poop in the potty though! We're working on it. Hope it goes well for you guys!
We are attempting to potty train this weekend. Ava has been using the potty every morning for a month now. Lauryn has no interest. I am stocked up on treats, stickers. I even told them we have to pack up the diapers for the diaper fairy so she can give them to the babies. Since they are big girls now. Figured we have nothing to lose (but my sanity)
James has been peeing consistently when I put him on the potty. And a few times he told me he had to go and we went straight to the potty.
SO I put underwear on him this weekend (with no pants) and he pooped and peed in them. He said "Mommy look at this" to the wet spot on the floor. I guess at least he told me that instead of continuing to play.
