I just had to post... on my local board lots of moms were talking about how impossible it is to enjoy yourself at a BBQ when you have a baby in the 1yo-2yo range.... an argument started when a non-mom scoffed at a woman she knows who brings a babysitter to BBQ's to watch her kids.... then I chimed in to tell all the moms of one baby to buckle up- try doing it with 2 babies AND a toddler hehe
but really - how NOT fun are BBQs when your twins are in the mobile but crazy stage?? I almost forgot how bad it was until I read that post...
so i wanted to tell you all who have young twins... IT GETS BETTER!!!
we're going to a BBQ tomorrow at a friend's house that we LOVE going to b/c she has a great/safe backyard for our kids.... and this year we can actually TALK to adults and EAT and SIT!!!!!! And just watch the kids play - with the occasional getting up to hug someone who got a boo boo, i'm sure... hopefully no stitches, lol.
In the mean time- a big play yard gate setup is a great idea for a big party - we have set them up at parties before and everyone who has one of those 12-20 month age kids who get everywhere but are dangerous with everything, have been very thankful they could put their child (or two or three... cousin's triplets for example) and go grab a burger, etc
It was way easier this year than last, with the exception of trying to keep the girls from touching every chip and carrot on the appetizer trays But really, they will go to their grandparents and aunts, they colored for awhile, they can eat off of a plate on their own...Way easier. They stayed up 1.5 hours past bedtime and were in great moods.
You are so right that it does get easier! This weekend was so much smoother than past years. I did have many conversations and I was able to eat/drink. And when we weren't BBQing we were playing outside. We played play-doh on their outdoor table and the clean up was a breeze.

:Y: We went to our first BBQ with the twins yesterday. It was so much fun taking them in the big pool for the first time My parents were also there, though, to take them while we ate, so that made it easier. I'm sure it's going to be much harder when they are mobile. Great tip about the play yard gate! We'll definitely bring ours once they are mobile!
We actually did the opposite this weekend - with 2 crazy toddlers who would freak out if they got stuck in a play yard, we put the play yard around the grill. Big piece of mind knowing that they could run around but couldn't get close to the grill and hurt themselves.

Yeah that is a great idea when they are too mobile to be happy contained we will probably do that at a BBQ we are having for the 4th that will have lots of kids.
