Did you guys see this article about the new study that came out suggesting twins do actually tend to have better outcomes if they are delivered at 37w versus 38w+?
I admit, I'm a little surprised, since when I was pg it seems like delivering anywhere from 36-38w was common, but from reading this board it seems like more recently more drs and hospitals are not scheduling twin deliveries before 38 or 39w unless there's a medical reason to do it sooner. Maybe the pendulum will swing back a bit now?
(My boys were born at 37w6d via scheduled induction. They were 3 hrs shy of 38w. Weighed 6lbs10oz and 6lbs7oz.)
This is interesting. My OB would not schedule until 38-39 weeks. I ended up delivering ar 36w2d...I do wish I could have kept them in a little bit longer so they could have gained a bit more. But I had to delivery earlier due to complications. So I understand that there is a greater risk for complications at the end.
There are a lot of MoMs on MM who had scheduled deliveries at 37 weeks, so even just 3-4 years ago it was fairly common. The practice I was originally with, I got different answers from different OBs but some would schedule as early as 36w for twins (most would schedule at 37w-38w.) I'd be interested in talking to an OB who's familiar with all the research and see if this study is more compelling than the previous ones.
