Hi, I'm a mom of two girls, 2 1/2 yo and 6 mo. My toddler throws epic tantrums (eg thrashing against the floor kicking her feet and screaming) every morning when it is time to comb her hair and tie it back. I offer her choices (pick a color for barrettes or bands), and give her 2 min advanced notice. That doesn't seem to help. The second I am done the tears shut off and she admires herself in the mirror.
What other tips work well for you to avoid this tantrum? Am I the only one who has to endure these outbursts before my morning coffee? I think personal hygiene is a non-negotiable and don't plan on forfeiting this fight...yet :-) Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Detangler? Elmo? My 2 year old does the same thing. I find that if I can distract her with something on tv (she likes commercials) and I spray some detangler in (she has curly hair) It makes the process just a little less painful.
I have the same issue. I try and distract her by letting her watch Youtube on my phone, or giving her a doll and a brush to also brush the doll's hair, but usually I just try and do it really quick and she still cries. :/
I will do it while she's in her highchair sometimes that way she is distracted or I'll put her in my lap and turn on Elmo and at times its not the most symmetrical but it gets done. I think if it was a battle like you are describing, I would probably opt for a shorter style to avoid the drama
