My son is 26 months. He generally sleeps through the night. He was terrible to get to sleep until recently. He would scream, cry, and have tantrums I tried to do CIO but that seemed to make things worse. I started leaving his bedroom door open halfway and now he quickly and quietly falls asleep. Great, right? Except that every single morning when I get up he is sleeping on the floor right in front of my bedroom door. He doesn't make any noise, cry, or even try to come in the room (he falls asleep there even though the door is open). WWYD? I tried a gate in his doorway a few months ago and he had problems falling asleep (he would stand at it and cry). Plus, he can climb most baby gates so I worry about him trying to climb and falling in the middle of the night. Any advice?
I don't really care if he sleeps on the floor in his room but I don't want him going out into the living room. I have almost stepped on him several times when getting up to use the restroom in the middle of the night. Plus, I don't want him to sleep on the couch which he seems to be fond of doing.
Can you close his door once he is asleep? what about putting a gate up in the hallway so he can't get to the livingroom, he'll still end up on the floor but at least you won't have to worry about him on the couch. Or have you tried buying him some special theme sheets and make a big deal about going to the store, letting him pick them out, maybe get him a new pillow, you know stuff to make him excited about staying in his bed.
I think as long as he is not crying, getting hurt, not sleeping on the couch I wouldn't be concerned with him sleeping on the floor. My son who is 3 was terrified to sleep in his bed at first and would rather sleep on the floor too. Eventually he got in his bed and has done great since then.
I would pull the door almost to a close but not securely closed so the idea gets put across of "stay in there" and I would re-visit the baby gate idea. Even though he is able to climb over it that might be to much work in the middle of the night and he may not want to and might just lay down there and go to sleep. Though I would probably put a pillow on the other side of it "just in case"
