Do you get the impression that people who are regulars on here have happier marriages than those on other boards? I'm thinking of Politics in particular. I swear, the Gaussian distribution of marital happiness is way skewed to the big-ass bummer side in comparison with people here, and RE or ML.
Check out sbp's thread about men and inappropriate relationships, not just her post, but all the responses and the vast difference between those of our regulars, and those of people who are primarily regulars over there. It's like, the average of our standards is something like "never gives me a moment's doubt or worry", and their average is "hasn't gotten anyone else pregnant yet".
We might just be louder bitches. I'm not sure if you can necessarily say we have better marriages on the whole, but it seems like we refuse to take much shit from our partners.

Isn't taking less shit the same thing, though, since we seem to be simply getting rid of any guys who suck instead of staying with them and letting our spirits sag in defeat?

That was kind of what I was thinking. Seems that most of the regs around here have that sort of steel spine to go "Look, you're acting like a twat, so take your damn ball and go the fuck elsewhere....lazy ass."
I kinda get the feeling that there are a few specific regs on other boards who skew the curve. I don't think anyone else ML would put up with the shit AppleBear's H pulls, for instance.

Oh, yeah, what I meant was that ML and RE are like TIP, distribution-wise. There are more on ML, so there is room for a few weird outliers, but overall the curve would be similar.
I'm teaching myself stats this month, if that's not obvious.

I haven't been around long and mostly lurking, but I'm gonna go with the "refusing to take shit" theory. I know that after my first marriage I sure as fuck don't put up with asshattery from my SO.

I think a large part of the reason I haven't had a real serious relationship since my divorce (which was 4 years ago BTW) is because my first marriage taught me how to stand up for myself and that I need to have higher standards.
Sometimes I wonder if this is a double-edged sword.

Only in the short term. Although I can see in your case where the short term/long term line could be feeling blurry. In the end, you only hurt yourself by settling.
