I want to know some success stories? I really need to lose weight. I'm 5'5 and 220 lbs. I joined a gym already and just need to get my fitness test in (I'm on a wait list).
I love it. I lost 40 pounds on it in one year.* However, you have to follow the plan. The plan is very liberal, it empowers you to make the right choices but also allows wiggle room for not so great choices.
Right now it is free to join. Usually there is a $20 membership fee. The best plan is the monthly plan. Weekly it comes out to 9.92, and 42.95 for the month; etools are included. Etools are wonderful for accountability, but I really need the meetings to keep me in check.
(I gained back 30lbs over a span of 3 years. You have to follow the plan to make it work.)

I know a lot of people who have had good success with WW. The program definitely works if you follow it faithfully. Are you looking to do online or go to meetings?
If you are interested in just the online component, My Fitness Pal is a good (free) option for calorie counting/food and exercise tracking. There is also a large message board community there for the support aspect. I was able to lose 75 pounds using a combo of exercise and MFP.
I tried MFP but I kinda of fell off the wagon. I lost 15 lbs doing it and I gained it all back. Now that my knee is healthy, I need to lose weight so I don' have continued issues with it

I think it is a great way to learn how to eat properly and make long-term changes for long-term weight loss and health.
In fact, Nigel is suddenly battling high blood pressure and maybe I'll put us both on it. We also need to cut back on our drinking and this will help us keep rules about that.
(I did it - not online - some years back and lost about 30 lbs.)
I did it and it worked. I really liked it. It's very reasonable and practical. I've actually done it twice (once after each pregnancy), and just to warn you -- you will likely be starving the first few days. At least I was. But once I got over that initial hump (like three or four days), I settled in nicely.
There is tons of info on the web about low-point snacks, and that always helped me. I also made big pots of their soups and ate that a lot. I found that I could stretch my points further if I cooked for myself. Kind of a PITA but it was worth it.
I am a lifetime WW member. I've done it online and the meetings. I prefer the meetings. You get so much more support.
But yes, as pp have said, you have to follow the plan. tracking what you eat and how much you eat (I was shocked at real portion sizes) but it is so worth it. Also the Activelink they have now to help track activity is awesome.
Oh, I forgot to add. I went back on just after Thanksgiving and I've lost 7 lbs already - no exercise. It's not a miracle fix, but it works.
As pps said, MFP is basically the same thing, but online only and free. I like the accountability of weight watchers. I like the meetings. I like getting on the scale in front of the receptionist - I can't fudge my weight if there is someone else weighing me.

Tell me more about activelink, please! Do you have it? Is it just another thing that WW is pushing?
I lost 70lbs on WW five years ago. I loved the program and my leader was fantastic. I quit WW about two years ago and have put about 20 back on. WW isn't in my budget so I'm on my fitness pal. Having "friends" on there keeps me pretty accountable and it's free. They both have their benefits but for now mfp is what I'm doing.
Activelink is an activity monitor. You wear it and it tracks your activity. You start with an 8 day assessment and then it gives you a 12 week challenge. So after my first 8 days it basicaly said that I barely get any activity so it challenged me to get to 4 activity points a day 2 a day the first month, 3 the second and 4 the 3rd. It is waterproof so you can wear it pretty much for anything.
There is a cost, it's $39 and $5 a month but for me it's worth it. I am up to 6 activity points a day now because I feel guilty when I don't get to 100% each day.
DH and I are both doing it. He's lost 25 lbs and his cholesterol and BP levels have all dropped too.
I don't have much weight to lose - but I've lost just enough that it's made the difference I was looking for.
I tried MFP but there is osmething about counting calories that just doesn't work for me. The point system WW created is a lot easier for me to follow.

My bestie is in their new commercial and they have shown me every new commercial except hers. They also sent me the come back flier that had Jessica Simpson on the front instead of my bestie. So, basically, WW works, but they're dead to me
I just polished off the last of a bag of Nestle mini morsels while reading this post I think I need to check out MFP too. Having trouble losing the last 10 pounds after having DD (hmm...I wonder why...lol).

I've done WW a couple of times over the past decade or so. Lost weight both times, but wasn't able to keep it off.
I signed up again in October as I needed something to help me get back to being healthy and I like it better this time around. I like that if I've eaten all my points I can still have a fruit or veggie if I'm hungry and it's zero points.
I've done sparkpeople before (not sure how similar it is to MFP) and it was annoying to count calories. For whatever reason, I prefer the points system of tracking.
This time around I've only been doing it online and have lost about 20 lbs. But just today I decided to sign up to start going to meetings. The holidays have gotten me off track and I need something to help get me back on.
I did it 6 years ago and loved it! I only just now gained a little weight back in the last few months but I'm back on track now. What I love about WW is you learn how to eat and control portions. I honestly had no idea how much a proper serving size was of anything and how bad, say, mayo was for you.

I love WW. I lost a little over 60 lbs after having my first daughter. Although I wasn't able to actually do the program when pregnant, I definitely was better equipped for a healthier pregnancy this go around.
I started back 6 weeks post partum. I'm determined to get to lifetime this year.
I will say that I LOVE the meetings. I know they aren't for everyone, but I love mine. It took me a while to find one that I "fit" in with. The one I go to is Saturday mornings at 7:30am so not the easiest to always want to get up and go to, but I never miss unless I'm out of town. The meetings are definitely one of the biggest tools to my success with the program.
