labial adhesion? Experience with this issue? DD is 18 months and the pedi said that it isn't a big deal and prescribed a cream to put on for 14 days and work it open. Check back in 3 weeks.
Any words of wisdom or encouragement would be appreciated!
My daughter had one as a baby too. We did the cream and it opened back up.She didn't fuss much, I don't think it was painful for her.
Just FYI, even once it is open, keep checking it. I didn't know to do so and it happened again when she was older. It was more difficult to fix when she was older. If I had known, I would have kept checking her!
My girls have...with my first we used Premerin cream & it opened up. Soon as I stopped it'd fuse back up. After a few rounds & my old Ped attempting to rip it open minus anesthesia with a q-tip (I stopped him before he touched her) I gave it up. I read that generally it opens in its own naturally at puberty if not before. My younger 2 have never been treated though DD2 ripped hers open when she stepped off a step & basically did the splits as a toddler. My girls have never had a UTI or other issue from it. I'm firmly on the leave it alone side of the fence now. When I moved our new female Ped totally agreed with me that we should just leave it be. So does my girl's current Pediatrician. The side effects of hormone cream aren't too pleasant & I'm paranoid it has caused issues with DD1 & early puberty. She's had BO & a few zits way too early (6 yrs old). I don't even know if my DD1 still has hers or not. It's common & I'm sure it has been for generations--my mom said she never even looked & neither did he Doc. I probably had it too I bet.
Thanks. The added hormones scare me. We choose hormone free meats/dairy because I do not want a 6 year old starting puberty!
I had the same concerns about the hormones, especially since it would fuse again every time we stopped the cream. Her pedi finally put some numbing cream on it and opened it with a Q-tip. DD never even flinched. It hasn't been an issue since the pedi did that over the summer (DD was just under 3).
I agree with the concerns of the hormone cream. I had the same. However, when my daughter's fused again, it was nearly a complete fusion. She was feeling the need to urinate just about every 5 minutes. It became an issue in school that the teacher talked to me about. She ended up having to have a surgical procedure in 1st grade to open it again. No problems since, but just know it is important to keep an eye on it.
Huh, this is frustrating because she is young and still is in diapers. It is hard to gauge how frequently she pees. It is also difficult to see the issue because it is hard enough to change her diaper, she doesn't lay still really.
Thanks everyone. I do like to hear others experiences. I do not want it to have to be surgically fixed and I don't want boobs at 6. Blah.
