Seriously. Do you ever feel more hungry after you eat?
Lately I seem to have two major feelings - I'm either hungry or bloated. Often after I eat (particularly lunch), I feel bloated. Like, distended stomach, horribly uncomfortable, wishing-I-owned-maternity-pants bloated.
Other times, I feel hungry. Right now is one of those times. My stomach is making all kinds of weird noises, and I feel hungry. But I shouldn't be because I ate a decent-sized lunch an hour ago.
Sometimes I feel bloated and hungry together. Other times, my stomach will be making noise, and I won't be able to figure out if I'm hungry.
I will bring this up at my upcoming follow-up appointment, but I was just wondering if anyone here has experienced this. I feel like I'm completely losing it.
For instance, it's 2 now. I've only had a diet coke to drink. I'm not hungry. But I guarantee you, the minute I actually eat something, I will be starving and then I will be hungry all day. The more I eat, the hungrier I'll be.
I have experienced that...but I was pregnant at the time.
LOL. I just got my first period in two years this weekend (and I'm super bitter about it), so it's definitely not that!
I know that stress plays into this. Saturday I got heartburn within 10 minutes of arriving at the office, and today I was nauseated within 5 minutes of getting here. I'm wondering if other factors could be at play as well.

Well I'm glad we've ruled one thing out. I know that pregnancy hormones do weird things to your gut - so I'm sure the same weird hungry with full belly/bloated combo could also happen due to other physical issues.
I feel like IIOY and/or mr+ms had previously posted an article about a link between hormonal issues and hunger. Or maybe it was epphd. Ack. Can't remember!

Oh goody, as if hormonal issues don't cause enough crap, they could be making me hungry too? AWESOME.

I always thought this was just a general given? Otherwise why am I 10x hungrier when I'm PMSing? I'm bloated, prone to the weepies and I'm hungry all day.

See I pretty much never have PMS, because I never have a period, because my hormones are all kinds of jacked up. So my hormones are a hot mess all the time, which could mean they are making me hungry all the time I never connected the two - and my Drs. have never said anything, so I guess I just didn't think about it.
Sometimes people mistake thirst for hunger. I don't know where I read that but it's stuck in my head.
I also remember watching a show where a women said it depends on what you eat. If there aren't enough nutrients in a meal, your body will crave more food hoping you'll supply them. She said it was the biggest problem with foods with low nutritional value and why people continue to be hungry. I think it was in a documentary. Again, sorry, I don't remember the specifics, but another thing that made me really mindful of what I'm eating.
My stomach hurts right now. Like that pit in your stomach feeling. It feels like hunger, but maybe it's not. It's really uncomfortable. I will bring it up with my GI.
I was just hoping someone else could come up with an idea that would make me not feel crazy. Alas, I'm probably just crazy.
I have no clue if I'm the one who posted that article, but when I am premenstrual, I sometimes look at my children and see oven roasts festooned with yummy veggies a la Bugs Bunny.

Festooned...teeheee.
This reminds me of Newman looking at Kramer like was a turkey and since I can't PIP in this damn stupid forum you will have to google it yourself
MH used to have this happen to him and it was because of a peptic ulcer. When he ate he felt awful so he wasn't eating enough, then he would get hungry again and eat and the ulcer would act up... vicious cycle. He went on the "healing purple pill" and is fine now.
I am also always hungry all the time. If I don't eat as much, though, I'm not as hungry. If I skip breakfast I'm fine until lunch, but if I eat something then I start dreaming about food an hour later.
Good luck with your doc, and hopefully s/he will find something!
I don't understand how anyone skips breakfast! If I don't eat a substantial breakfast, everyone around me is in serious danger. Same if I don't get my coffee.
I'm only ever hungry after eating when I over eat, particularly junk food. Which is a downward spiral of epic proportions.
Like Brookles, when I eat less, I am less hungry. But more than that, I'm less hungry when I eat real food rather than crap. But I always eat breakfast. And drink a lot of coffee. And wine.

Ditto. My morning routine when I get to work: Lots of coffee. Then more coffee. Then breakfast. Then more coffee. If that does not happen, lord help everyone
This happens to me after eating apples or pretzels. I asked Dr. Google because I thought I might be dying lol and found out that adding a bit of protein to snacks like that can help. It at least takes the edge off, but I think I am just hungry all the damn time.
mr+ms, I will try to watch that later (can't watch videos at work). If you know of any articles, I can look through those while still in the office.
What's frustrating to me is that this has much more to do with when I eat - lunchtime is the problem - than what I eat. I've been writing stuff down, and I can find ZERO discernible pattern, other than breakfast is rarely a problem. I can also eat half my lunch at lunchtime and be fine but then eat the other half at 3pm and be bloated as fuck. Or I can eat the same thing two days in a row, and I'll be fine the first day but in agony the next. Maybe I should talk to my gastro about upping my prozac to help with the stress.
Update (since I know you want one): my stomach is officially growling up a storm, and I will be leaving work early just to eat dinner. #teamfatass

Oh, my God, this is totally me!
I've always been skeptical of the advice that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If I eat breakfast, I'm starving before lunch. If I don't, I'm fine.
And also, it's rare that I'm actually hungry in the morning so it seems wrong to eat just because someone else decided it would be a good time to eat! Then again, I'm a night owl, and I'd rather save my breakfast calories for something after dinner and I know that's not a good idea either.
I also don't feel hunger much and can ignore it easily, unless it's approaching ~20 hours since I last ate. I don't eat breakfast because it makes me nauseous too and do good to get 2 meals a day. I don't feel thirst either which is a much bigger problem.
Does Prozac affect serotonin? If so, it could be causing the effects on your tummy. 80% of serotonin activity affects digestion.
Do you have gas and the shits too? Could be a tummy virus/bacteria.
