All of this... Nicolas eats pretty much everything.. except I havent really given him chunks of meat yet.. I just have an overwhelming fear for some reason...
We just started giving Lillian everything we eat for her meals. I pretty much make everything pea size but I know that BLW is a bit different which I have done too. I also still give her a fruit puree at the end of the meal which she usually downs. Also give her puffs. I have the frozen organic veggie/chicken patties that are quick to make too. Here are some of what we give her:
Turkey burgers Veggie burgers Chicken Grilled cheese Pancakes and waffles(hungry jack) steamed veggies (peas, green beans etc) roasted fruits (she doesn't really like them raw still) pasta bagels yogurt oatmeal pizza crusts plain hummus on mum-mums meatballs pierogies (cheddar and potato) toast
I also have "meat fear". I am happier with certain meats like ground meat (so the pasta might be in a meat sauce). Also meat like stewed meat that is falling apart.
I am afraid to give steak, or slices of chicken, though I have done in the past. I just feel less comfortable with it.
Last night I gave her a bit of salmon and she loved it! At first she made a weird face like WTF is this? then she grabbed for more.
Chunks of a avocado are great! He also likes pan-fried tofu and tempeh. I make oatmeal fingers from the recipe in the BLW cookbook - 3 Tb oats, 3 Tb water or breastmilk, mix it up, press it into a mold of some sort (I use a small square Pyrex), microwave for two minutes. You can mix stuff in with it, like fruit or cinnamon. Good luck!
Could you give him a "solid" food (i.e yogurt bites) for him to feed himself with WHILE you feed him with a spoon? That is the only way Colin will let me feed him. Otherwise, I prepare his food, such as pancakes, the same way I would for myself.
For the last two weeks, we've given him puffs or yogurt bites and attempt to feed him with a spoon when he opens his mouth to put one of those in. It worked pretty well at first, but I think he's wise to our trick now. Last night we got 2 spoonfuls in him in 30 minutes time. Food was everywhere! I am going to try letting him feed himself for a few days to see if that helps.
