Back when we picked out our rings (we chose them all together), we had a really hard time deciding. I've always been more of a costume jewelry gal, so I really didn't even know what I liked. After much deliberation and window shopping, I decided and ended up with a lovely diamond solitaire and wedding band. Very nice - just not in any way unique or of any particular significance to me.
C and I both love antiques - browsing in shops is a favorite pastime. And I have always loved vintage clothes and jewelry. The idea of an antique ring had occurred to me, but we were on a tight budget, and I assumed it would be $$$$$$ - plus, I didn't even know where to look!
Anyway, we recently discovered that one can find lots of gorgeous antique jewelry online, and in local stores if you know where to look. And then we discovered that we could actually make a profit by selling my rings and buying an antique that we BOTH liked a lot more than my original
So it became a fun project that we worked on together. I was always pinning rings, and we'd pop into shops together to look around. The timing was good because this year was our 5th wedding anniversary, and with all the problems we've been having in our relationship, it seemed like a nice symbol of a fresh start.
And then, I found it! The perfect ring - 1930s with beautiful filigree - for HALF the price that we were quoted to sell my old ones! We were/are so thrilled and we used the profit to buy a (much needed) new computer.
So pretty. I love my antique ring too. I too love vintage jewelry and was so excited to find "my ring" at an antique store. Unfortunately S and I had only been dating for 3 months and hadn't even really spoken about the M word. I "visited" my ring for several months every time we were in Woodstock until it disappeared. I was devastated. My mean wife then let me grieve that ring for 6 months before she proposed. Glad you got the ring you wanted and I think it is a great symbol at the 5 year mark.
