Did your insurance cover it?

If not, how much did it cost?

My insurance company told me they'd cover it, I called my Dr office today and the girl said she didn't think that company covered anything to do w infertility. So now I have to call my insurance company again.

I tend to trust the girl at the Dr office bc she's the HSG scheduler, so I'm betting she knows what she's talking about. So, now instead of $40, I'm pretty sure it'll be $575!! :@ That's more than the potential IUI is gonna cost.

I do need to do it though, it will show whether an IUI will be a total waste of time, I might have to go straight to IVF.

Anyways, I was just wondering if everyone else feels like they're paying out the wazoo for stuff every 5 seconds

2. yes but i have tricare and they cover all testing for fertility. Do not cover iui or ivf.

Paying for iui out of pocket is why i have been waffling on it. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility so I feel like there is nothing wrong with me and while iui increases our chances it doesn't do it by a lot (in my mind) so i waffle about paying for all of iui because of this. Also I just don't like putting hormones into my body.

It all sounds crazy expensive when I hear what you ladies in the US pay for anything though. :-(

I called my insurance and they said they'd cover it.

Had it.

Got a bill from the hospital that it was covered, I owed $0. GREAT.

Came home from the IL's (went there for Christmas) and had a bill for $900 for it.

So fuck. I guess I have to figure this out.

Lola that was what I was worried about!! I know sometimes hospitals automatically send out bills but you don't have to pay them. Hopefully that's what it is?

I haven't had this yet, but its next on the plan if this cycle and next don't work. Glad to hear its covered thru Tricare.

Ilovecandy, doesn't Tricare pay for medications associates with IUI/IVF? We also have Tricare and although I have no personal experience with it yet, a friend said they paid out of pocket for the actual procedure, but not the meda that go with it. Is this true? What has been your experience?

All i have heard is that they cover nothing for it. I know that there are three mtfs that do those procedures at lower cost. Though at least for iui for us it comes out to be about the same. When we went in for the consult at the RE about IUI they said the way the bill the ultrasounds is done so that tricare covers it somehow though. I am not sure if i trust that. Anyways by the end of this year we will have the credit cards paid off and will probably do IUI then. I don't really feel like doing it untill then though we could.

eta: obviously i am not 100 percent sure this is just info i gathered from some friends who have been through the process, the consult, and the handbook but you can always call and ask tricare.

My insurance covers the testing for infertility, but none of the procedures (IUI, IVF, etc). I called and verified w/ my insurance before I got it done. I did end up having to pay some, as I hadn't met my deductible, but I can't remember how much.

Mine covered my testing up until diagnosis. Anything actually conception related (IUI/IVF) is OOP.

Mine covered it, thank God.

For me it wasn't fun. Take some Advil beforehand.

Once the balloon and the dye was inserted ( which hurt) the imaging machine wasn't working correctly. It took like 40 min. Of course, this is unusual.

Many people don't feel uncomfortable from it.

Oh, and bring a pad for all the dye.

I had one in 2009 when I was trying to get PG with my daughter and another one this summer. Insurance fully covered both of them, but for the one this summer the bastards at the insurnce company initally lied and said I don't have IF coverage, hoping I woukldn't challenge them and they wouldn't have to pay. Luckily when I called thjen out on it they then admitted that it is covered.
