All I see is greenwashing. We'll have to agree to disagree on vinyl. But the painting contractor I had at my house last week called me a "maniac," so you've got company in thinking I'm a nut
Oh I don't think your a nut! I've just never heard of it, I grew up on vinyl hah. Anyway, so it got me looking to see about the fire hazard, I think that link said it had low voc. I plan on upgrading in the future to something else, but the vinyl is perfect for the toddlers/ dog/ bunnies
I have distressed hardwood in a medium chestnut. I love the look but next time, I would go lighter so I can clean less. The darker it is, the more stuff shows up on it.
I voted other. We have a laminate that looks like a 12x24 tile. It's temporary but I like it. It's very easy to clean, pretty indestructible and easy on the feet (and dropped dishes).

Juno - not sure if you'll have this answer, but what's the best thing to do with my vinyl floors after I rip them out? Is there a safe way to dispose of them or is it better to find a way to use them (maybe in closets?) ?

We have the cheap laminant bamboo stuff that they sell for $2/sq ft at Home Depot. I hate it. I'm afraid to wet mop because there isn't really any finish at all for the 2 mm groves between boards. And even when it is clean, it is horribly beat up and looks awful. The building is maybe 7 years old.
The house we are trying to buy has stick down tiles, which I don't like either, but we have plans to install site-finished hardwoods, possibly before we move in.
