Those of you who are considering giving coconut milk after 1 year instead of WCM, do you mean the kind that comes in a can, or the kind that comes in the half-gallon milk-style carton? I'm assuming the can but not sure.

I was going to give the one in a can, but that's because I didn't know they sold it any other way.
I asked the pedi about the best alternative to WCM yesterday at X's 9 month check up, but she didn't know. She said she would find out and get back to me at his 12month check up.
No the cans are coconut milk. The cartons (that I've seen) are "coconut milk beverage". I'm talking about the big cartons that they've started carrying in the dairy section. I suppose coconut water also comes in a carton of sorts?
So... I'd go with the cans.
What I'm wondering is, if you are using coconut milk instead of WCM, do you add some kind of protein powder to the milk or just try to get higher protein foods in?
You can make your own milk if you buy the canned Coconut milk.. it's way thicker and you just water it down with water as far as I know.
If you buy the actual carton of Coconut Milk like I do in the store from So Delicious/Lucerne/Silk it's already watered down to a certain extent. Then it also has something to thinken it a bit I believe.. I'd have to check in a bit because I've got it in the fridge but we are going to eat dinner first.

Typically the thickener is carrageen. The boxed stuff is fortified with calcium and other minerals so when have used it we buy the box. There is coconut cream in the cans that contains fat.
