ORLANDO, Fla. - An Orlando student who says she made repeated attempts to report the bullying of a special needs student on her bus was shocked when she ended up getting punished for taking a stand.
Stormy Rich, an 18-year-old Lake County high school student, got to go to school later by riding the middle school bus---thanks to earned extra credit hours---but that privilege was revoked, according to a Huffington Post report.
When Rich was riding the bus, she saw that a special needs student was getting picked on by her peers, but the child didn’t understand what was happening to her.
The high school students said the differently-abled girl was kept from sitting in certain areas on the bus and students would even stuff food into the girl’s mouth.
Rich complained to the bus driver and a high school official, but nothing got rectified, so she took matters into her own hands.
The teen told the kids to stop the bullying, and warned that if they didn’t and the school didn’t get involved, she would have to “handle it”.
That action led the district official to remove her from the bus because authorities believe that Rich herself used bullying behavior.
Rich says she was following the school policy, which asks students to report bullying they witness.
A county representative says there’s more than one side to the story and other parents are involved.
