So, when my ILs were here, my FIL left his little agenda/diary (he literally prints pictures off the internet and pastes them in there to illustrate his adventures) laying around, so my husband snooped in it. They had a week in January marked off as "Hong Kong." Later, they asked us what our vacation plans for 2013 are. When asked what their plans are, they only mentioned their awesome 12-hour train ride to Warsaw for the Rammstein concert.
I am pretty positive that they are going to HK but hiding it from us for some reason. My husband's birthday falls in the middle of the week that they might be gone, so we're thinking that they'll have to tell us eventually, since it is considered VERY bad form to not call someone on their birthday. And, since we are pretty sure that they are too dense to figure out how to actually call Germany from HK, they'll have to tell us they were somewhere other than home.
So, my husband wanted me to ask you ladies what you would do if you caught them in a lie. We obviously don't want to tell them that we were looking in his agenda.
I would just say i saw in your book thing, but i am so blunt about many things.
When they sold their apartment in 2008, they promised to give us money so that we could put a down payment on a house. We never asked them to do this ... they offered themselves. But this has not been mentioned since they sold apartment. My husband thinks they feel bad for taking a big trip because of this.
I personally don't give two shits if they take expensive trips. I just think they're total fuckwads for lying.
Gender reassignment surgery? I don't know. I wouldn't say anything and gloat to myself when they try to cover it up later. I'm sure they have their own reasons for hiding it and will probably never come clean.

They took the agenda with them. It was laying here on the sideboard the whole time, so it's not like it was his super-secret diary. My husband just wants to know what to say should they say they decided on a last-minute trip to HK. He wants to give them the idea that he doesn't believe it was last minute. I told him he should tell them someone we know just went to HK and came back with some weird disease.

I like the disease idea. Next time he's on the phone, he can bring it up casually! So and So went to HK, brought back bed bugs and a severe undiagnosable illness that's had them bed ridden for weeks! Something like that.
