UPDATE: no news was good news. Looks like at the most he might have his toe amputated. But it's looking like the antibiotics are doing their job. A toe is better than a leg.
Last week, my 87 year old grandpa decided to play doctor and remove a corn on his toe. Turns out it got seriously infected. Grandma took him to the Dr yesterday. Dr sent him to hospital.
They were told that if the infection has spread to his bone, then they'd have to amputate from the knee down on that leg. They did an xray around 2 this morning. She hasn't heard yet if it's spread that far. The nurse told her that if it was that bad, the Drs would have been in there right away doing their thing.
I'm surprised they haven't told her anything else of time. Shouldn't she have talked to a Dr today? I think maybe I'm misunderstanding her or something.
Grandma's going to call me tomorrow, and I'll prolly head on out to the hospital around lunch time.
How old is your grandma? I don't mean this in a rude way, but is she capable of asking the right questions, understanding the answers and advocating for your grandfather? If not, I would at least consider calling the hospital directly.
I hope everything turns out wonderfully and that no news is good news.
