I am just starting to look into a new checking account for us. I hate our local bank, and am so tired of their crap. We have a couple of ING savings accounts, and it would be nice to have everything together. Does anyone have an ING Electric Orange checking account? Any feedback?
FWIW, I don't love our credit union options (though I'm sure there are a couple I haven't looked at yet), and our other bank options are the majors like Wells Fargo, Chase, US Bank. There's a couple of local/regional banks we could look at, but the idea of everything together is appealing. TIA!
we love our ING account. i would say the one annoying part is that you can't deposit checks at an actual location. we usually have no problem with the app on our phones to deposit, but over the holidays we have gotten a few checks which for some reason the app will not deposit. so, we still have an account at BOA so we can deposit checks there if need be.
other than that, i love the ease of transferring money between our checking and ING savings accounts. i like that there are free ATMs all over the place.

It looks like you can mail in the checks for deposit that the app won't take - a PITA, but better then no option, I guess? How often has that happened for you?
I have used ING for years. It's been great. My favorite feature is having the subaccounts. We probably have a dozen or so. It makes sticking to a budget so much easier for us.
I also like that you can record information about checks, even before they're cashed. It's too easy for us to forget about checks and not factor them into how much is actually available.

we have had the account for a year and a half, and this month was the first time it happened to us. i dont deposit many checks, but usually its not a problem.
We have ING and TD bank. I'd switch over to ING entirely, but H's checks won't deposit through the phone and mailing is a pita. SO we keep TD for deposits only and do transfers to ING. I was having too many bounced checks bc TD has an insane waiting period for depositing of checks. Its a non-issue now bc I can instantly transfer money from savings to checking if I need to.
I have a checkbook and a debit card, so its the same as a regular bank for me.

We have electric orange, but we also have our local bank (TD). We use TD for most bills, but ING checking works just as well for online bill payment. You can even get a check book if you need to write paper checks. We primarily use the paper checks when we buying something large or paying a contractor. It's great because you can instantly transfer money from savings into the account.
We use the debit card, but only as a credit. We haven't tried to get cash out, but I assume it works fine.
I used my first check recently to pay our architect and got an email from ING telling me when he cashed it. I thought that was kind of cool.
I haven't tried depositing via the app yet. I've heard it's hit or miss. You can probably use the ATM to deposit checks if the app doesn't work, but I haven't tried.
We are actually looking at switching out of ING. So far it's been great to have the money in an online acct, and I've had mine for years. It's really helped us save up for the big things in life like a house, car, etc. I'm kind of disappointed by the low interest rates we've been getting, now that it's at .75% we are going to look at our options. DH looked up Ally Bank and it's gotten good reviews and offers .95%. It's better than .75%, but no where near what we used to make in the good old days of 4% rates!!!

I have had ING for years both for checking and savings. I don't deposit many checks but if I do I usually use our local CU to deposit and then transfer to ING. I like that I earn interest even with the checking account and bill pay is super easy.

Uploading through the app or on the website does have limits (there is a dollar amount limit, that's the main thing). So if it's a big check you'd have to mail it in. Linked accounts are awesome though. So easy to transfer money back and forth!
The other thing with the electric orange is that you can only have one checking account associated with your name. So DH and I used to have three checking accounts - one joint, and then each one of us had a personal one for fun money, etc. We weren't able to do that with Electric Orange, so I switched over just my personal account.
Also, keep in mind that in February, they'll be changing from ING to Capital One 360 - the ING US stuff was sold to Capital One a while ago. They're saying that nothing will change (except the names), but who knows. You may want to wait, and look into other options.

ING has been a part of Capital One for almost a year now (legally for a couple months or so now). AFAIK the only changes have been the name and no more foreign transaction fees. I have confidence that if there are going to be any "bad" changes, they won't happen for a while.
