We went to two of our favorite antique shops today and came home with some things I love, so I'm sharing I don't think we got amazing deals, but we never do at the antique stores.
We got a table that we can use for games/puzzles in our living room without taking up too much space when not in use:
DH has inspected it and declared it to be solid mahogany. We waxed it up, and it's beautiful! It was on sale for $149 (originally marked $175).
Next up was something I probably should have passed on for the price, but I just fell in love when I saw it. Cow milk glass for my recently started collection:
The cow is really detailed down to her little nostrils. $54, yikes. I do love her though. I justified it by thinking the side table I had ordered (now canceled) was going to be $200, so I "saved" $50 there with the mahogany table.
And finally, not D&R, but I'm in love, a 1960s alligator handbag:
Leather lined, metal zipper pocket inside, brass closure. I have no idea if it's real alligator or not, but it's at least leather; the worn areas reveal some sort of skin texture. And with all that metal and leather, I think it's well worth the $95 I paid.
I call it a success, and Merry Christmas to me WDYT?
Love the milk glass! I've started to collect jadeite.
I never knew that's what the green stuff was called. Very pretty stuff.
kristilynnmy--Milk glass is a weird thing to have such a strong feeling about LOL. Hope he comes around. Or you could bring it to the bay area and get $50 per piece, haha.
My grandmother gave me a bunch of pieces recently in addition to some I received from a friend. I like the look with my yellow and blue kitchen.
Very cool! Love them all..that purse especially. I have a thing for old purses. I have a bunch of my grandma's in a box I need to clean a bit so I can use..even if it is just for Rubes' toybox...there are some nice ones in there though for me to use.
And that milk glass rocks! I wish I had space for a collection of it. I will say though I think you got a decent deal. I was just at an auction where one like that but with a chicken brought like $240.00.
Do you know anything about the table? The patina of the wood in the photograph makes it look like some very old (early 1800s), very valuable pieces I've seen. Of course I can't tell from a photo, but it's a great "almost" if it's relatively modern

We don't know anything about it, and there wasn't anything on the tag. DH is very into old furniture (not an expert by any means though) and building furniture, and he was able to figure out it's mahogany and not veneered, but that's about it. Maybe Antiques Roadshow will come sometime and we can find out Perhaps we did get a deal, if not a steal. Heck, I was ready to buy a new table for $200, so I got a deal either way.
