Dh and I need a new mattress - badly. The daily back pain is getting annoying. We would like to upgrade from our queen to a king. I don't want to buy something that's going to wear out quickly and will need replacing in a few years, but would also like to be somewhat budget friendly, especially since we'll need new sheets etc. I'd like to stay between $1,000 - $1,500, if possible.
I am a side/stomach sleeper, as is DH. According to my research a firm mattress would work the best for those sleep positions. I did enjoy the memory foam pad we put on top of our old mattress to try to stretch its' life, but not sure if I should commit to a memory foam mattress.
I also am not looking forward to the buying process because I feel like reviews aren't so handy due to everyone's preferences being so different. I also am not looking forward to laying on different mattresses around the store. This is our first mattress purchase - all others came from family/childhood homes.
The only store around us is a Sleepy's and we're going to go look tomorrow. Their prices are really negotiable? I feel like we'll look ridiculous haggling over prices....
I could have written the same post at this time last year! Back pain, uncomfortable, waking up multiple times a night. We bought a memory foam mattress over President's Day weekend last year. It was majorly on sale. It's not Tempurpedic, but it's still awesome. I wake up in the same position I fell asleep in.

We just bought a temperpedic. It was about $1500 with 8% sales tax and delivery. We wanted a pretty firm mattress and one that would not wake the other up when someone rolled over. We have been very happy with it. It does have a funky smell at first. We have had it for about 6 weeks and sleep much better. It also has a very good warranty compared to a traditional mattress.
As a bonus, because of the structure of the mattress, you can sleep on much more of the bed. We can get a lot closer to the edge without it dipping in, so the queen seems much bigger. We don't have room for king, but I seek DH's heat when asleep, so it wouldn't matter, I would hunt him down.
we spent the money on a tempurpedic 7 years ago and have never regretted it - LOVE it. We both were getting achy backs and about 2 weeks after getting it- that went away.
i love that i don't feel Dh turning over, etc. and i can say there are many nights I don't move at all from how i feel asleep - b/c my body is comfortable the entire night.

We just bought DD a Novaform memory foam mattress from Costco (they had a coupon last month & it included shipping to the door) that we both have agreed will replace our Sleep Number sooner rather than later. We both keep snoozing on it when we go to cuddle with her. It carries a 20 year limited warranty and was a lot less than the Tempurpedic.
I am a Sleep Number fan. A HUGE fan!! You can adjust the firmness. Just b/c people say that stomach/side sleepers should have a firm mattress doesn't mean they will like one!
A regular would never work for us b/c DH likes a very firm mattress and I am just the opposite. A Sleep Number lets us adjust each side to our preference. sleep Number is always having deals and they have levels or tiers to their mattresses. Your budget is on the lower side for a Sleep Number buy again, they always have sales and deals. Everyone in my family now has a Sleep Number thanks to me! LOL.

So I've only slept on it one night, but slept pretty well and didn't wake up with my hips aching like they normally do. So that's good progress.
I think the King is around $1500. We just got ours on sale at Sears because our local store is closing. It doesn't normally go on sale though (at all, other than something like 0% financing or free delivery, we've been looking at it for close to 2 years and this was the first sale!).
We have about a 10 year old mattress that we are getting ready to replace. The costco mattress seems interesting..We are not very picky people but if the price is right for $550 it seems like agood deal. Question: Did you replace your box spring or just keep the old one and use it with this mattress?
