Today I decided to play detective and since I was making lasagna with an egg white in it- I rubbed a little eggwhite on the back of his neck and took a picture. Within 10 minutes it was welted up and very red. This pic doesnt show the welts but it was puffy! My dr was in this morning so we were able to take him in but it's definitely an egg white allergy. She wants us to wait a few months to try yolk and avoid all processed foods and baked goods until we come back for our 9m appt in 2 weeks.
I have so much anxiety over this. I know he will be ok and most kids outgrow it but still, it's hitting me hard.

Oh poor baby! It is good you figured it out now. When you do try yolk you can ask to do it in the waiting room just in case.
Baking without egg is very simple and there are lots of natural substitutes. The fear of accidental contact/ingestion is the worst part. Screw food allergies.
It is ok. My niece has an egg allergy. She is 3 now and they are doing very well with it. There are a lot of egg free things out there that you wouldn't think about. We know a little girl who is 1 with an egg allergy who can eat them if they are baked. Hopefully he will outgrow it quickly
thanks, rationally I know it'll be ok. the dr mentioned that some kids can eat them when they are baked (in pancakes, cakes, etc) but to wait until he's closer to a year to try.
he actually had his flu shot- both doses and didn't react. They don't like giving benadryl under a year so she had me give him zyrtec today for the welts and buy benadryl to keep at the house in case he ever has an allergy that gives him trouble breathing the welts went away during his nap but are back now

H has egg issues too but was o.k with the flu shot as well. You might want to consult with an allergist. It seems like all of the pedis in our practice are very "meh" and cavalier regarding food challenges.
I honestly didn't expect him to react to it just touching his skin. I took the first picture figuring I'd need a little to compare it to (he has a stork bite on the back of his head). I don't think I need the "before" to notice the allergy! DH was at work today and I was all alone- if i thought he'd actually react I would've waited!

Oh jaime, I was hoping the speculation wouldn't pan out to be truth! Sorry that he reacted so badly, but happy you found out so early. PP's are right, there's so much you can make without eggs these days, and more and more places are better with dealing with allergies. Hopefully it's something he can outgrow
