So my husband just informed me I am going to need to get up at 6AM to water the lawn (He will turn it on at 5:30AM then leave for work and I will turn it off at 6AM). What the cost of an irrigation system is completely worth it for me when he says things like that
I realize every area is different but I don't have a lot of time in the next few weeks to research it so I'd like to just get a ballpark idea how much it is per square foot to see if it is something I want to persue. I have a piece of paper around here somewhere that tells me how large my yard is so I can guesstimate from there.

It depends. Our landlords had one installed last year for approximately $5k. However, their plot is HUGE and I'm guessing the labor rate was minimal due to the unemployment around here. They should have paid more, though, because the timer system is not working properly and we don't have a filter for it, which is necessary due to running the system off ditchwater.
I'd definitely call around and get a few estimates. My guess would be $1.50-$2.00 per sq ft in a HCOL area for a reputable company to do the install.

In our area, the average rate is $500-700 per zone. I really don't know how much sq ftg each zone covers, but we have a decent size front yard/side yard and between that and the beds, it was 3 zones (with timers, remotes, etc.).
A half hour of water per day is way too much unless you have pure sand for soil (in which case I would advise against trying to grow a lawn there in the first place). Yes a timer is much easier and cheaper to water your yard. Unless this is your forever home I wouldn't even consider paying someone that much to put one in. You can also get a lawn tractor style sprinkler that slowly moves around your yard following the hose you lay down for it.
