Are medical exams performed before basic training?

Please excuse my ignorance regarding this matter. I know absolutely nothing about military regulations and I thought this would be the best place to check.

I just have two questions, if you know the answers, I appreciate some feedback.

1. Will the Army accept someone who has a sexually transmitted disease (Not counting AIDS)?

2. Are new recruits checked for STDs before joining the Army?

A girl in my Basic class had a raging gonorrhea outbreak and I had to go with her to tell the drills who then sent me to the hospital with her. It was the only time I was tempted to go AWOL.

His, I have been checking ML for updates on your granddaughter. And was thinking about this when you posted that your SD's sister is in basic and she is accusing her of transmitting the disease because of cold sores.

That makes me sound creepy but, I've been thinking of your family and praying.
