Website for blogging?

So H and I are definitely going to start a blog to record our life in Cairo.

Tell me about what website you use for blogging. Why do you like it? Anything you don't like about it? I have used blogger before, and it was just fine....but I feel like I've seen some blogs that are a lot better then blogger.

Sell me on your favorite.

A lot depends on how much html you know and how much time you want to spend on it.

I've used typepad and blogger, and I think I like blogger for ease of use and typepad for customization and better default templates. I hear a lot of good things about wordpress, but that's from people who write for a living.

Also I'm not sure how much you care about it but I'm sure WordPress and typepad have better integration with Facebook/twitter/Google+ than blogger. Well Blogger has good Google + integration but that's it.

I really like wordpress (clearly )
but really, my absolute favorite thing ever for blogging (assuming you have a pc) is windows live writer. omg, so so so awesome.

oh, and my favorite things about wordpress, is how it's super easy to start out with (aka no techie skills whatsoever), but also super easy to customize (for super techie skills). there are also tons of great free templates.

I use blogger it is my favorite I've found so far. It is right in the middle in terms of what you can customize and user friendly if you don't know a whole lot about HTML.

If you are going to be uploading a ton of large high res photo files, be prepared that blogger has a limit for the free amount of uploading space which is the one thing I don't like. You can purchase more if you want.

You can also google cutest blog on the block and that website has a ton of really cute templates.

I use Blogger and the main reason I picked it over Wordpress is that Wordpress required me to download a program to use it. Blogger was completely web-based and since I often write 2/3 of my post during slow times at work, that meant I didn't have to have anything installed on my work pc.

Haha, the main reason I don't blog very much is that while I have topics and even take lots of pictures with my phone, I get bogged down by getting the pictures off my phone and editing them to post online. (If anyone has good quick tips for that, I'm ALL ears!)

And can't wait for you to start blogging about Cairo!!

IvanKitteh, I absolutely love the Windows Live Essentials suite windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/essentials-home. There are skydrive apps for iphone, android and windows phone. From there, you can easily upload any pictures you take on your phone. You can hook that up to the skydrive folder on your pc or from the website, and easily access pictures from there.

If you haven't signed up for skydrive yet, make sure you use this to upgrade your storage amount:
windows.microsoft.com/en-us/skydrive/loyalty

The windows live photo gallery has super easy to use editing software.

Then, windows live writer hooks up to all of the big blogging platforms. You can easily upload drafts to the server (or work on drafts online with either wordpress or blogger), and then access them from your home pc to add the nicely edited pictures.

I use blogger and I'm always changing my background images. I don't have any other suggestions for you though.. I hope you find one you like!

Also, I wasn't aware wordpress required you to download software? I have a private wordpress installation on my server and it's web-based interface.

haha. it's funny, this is actually software that I'd use even if I wasn't drinking kool-aid. it actually makes me sad that more people don't know about it.

wordpress doesn't require you to download software.
