My husband's birthday is coming up, and I want to get him a cookbook because I'm sexy like that. I was looking at some Nigella ones because I think she cooks awesome stuff, even though I can't handle the way she stuffs her hands into everything. Do you guys have any favs?
my go to now is the Cooks Illustrated cookbook. It's from Americas test kitchens, basically they test everything in various ways to come up with the "perfect" way. Allegedly. Anyway, I've never had a recipe not be great from this book.
I also love the williams sonoma cookbook because it has pretty pictures
I will second the recommendations for the smitten kitchen cookbook and the best recipe (Americas test kitchen/cooks illustrated cookbooks, there's two, one general and one specifically for baking). Ive had the best recipe book for years, and I just got the smitten kitchen and best recipe-baking cookbooks for Xmas.

These all look so awesome!
We have a lot of cookbooks, to be honest. But we like to cook. I used to love Jamie Oliver, but we've watched too many of his shows, and now I just think he's annoying.
I also really like the Cooks Illustrated (and Baking). They are definitely not filled with nice perfectly cooked food pictures through out. But I agree with Laura, the recipes always turn out good!
Mark Bittman's "How to Cook Everything". If you are looking for a great baking book, right now I'm loving "Momofuku Milk Bar" by Christina Tosi.
Love Bittman. His How To Cook Everything Vegetarian and The Food Maters Cookbook are also great. I don't have it yet, but based on her blog, I know Deb Perlman's Smitten Kitchen Cookbook will also be amazing.
I buy cookbooks from local churches and nfp groups. so I don't have one clue about a mass produced cookbook, but I adore Ree Drummond (Pioneer Woman) and imagine her cookbooks are probably great.

Thank you all so much; I went with Cooks Illustrated ... but not before changing my mind a million times. All recs are now on the wishlist for future occasions of gift giving!
