I currently have a basic Kindle (wifi, w/ ads), which I love, especially because it's so convenient and portable.
I have a decent stash of Amazon GCs, more than I can imagine spending on books. Since they were holiday and bday gifts, I don't want to use them for something practical. I though a Kindle Fire might be cool, but also redundant. I like the e-ink on my Kindle, so I'm not interested in replacing it.

I have the same Kindle you do and an ipad. I don't think they're redundant at all. I use them for two completely sets of things. I would consider what you want to use the Kindle fire for. My poor ipad doesn't get a ton of use because I prefer my laptop when I'm at home and I have my iphone when I'm not home. That's not to say you won't love the fire and use it a lot, it just depends on how you like to play on the internets and such.

I have a Kindle 2 (3G!) and a Kindle Fire and I like them both for different reasons.
I surf the web a lot more than I thought I would on my Kindle Fire. I also play games on it and use it to keep track of my grocery list, etc... I read on it when I am indoors and with a wifi connection.
My Kindle 2 is great for reading outdoors (beach, backyard, etc...) and because I can download books anywhere with cell service. This is what I take on trips with me since I don't have to worry about finding wifi. E-ink is much easier to read outdoors and it's super simple to throw my Kindle 2 in a ziplock back for at the beach - no worries about water or touch pads or whatever.

I have both the Kindle Fire and the basic Kindle. I have been trying to sell the basic Kindle but haven't had any luck yet. I have all my books and everything down loaded to the Fire.
I have both and I use the Fire for everything except reading books. The Touch is so much lighter and easier to take with me during my commute on the train to/from work. I didn't really want the Fire, but it was a gift (can't complain about that!), and I am happy to have it when I am too lazy to turn on my desk top computer. I plan on bringing the Fire on our summer vacation and loading it with videos for DD to watch on the airplane. My only complaint about the Fire is that I wish it came in 3G like my Touch because our wifi situation sucks.
Yes, although the kindle fire is technically my husband's. He claims I bought him an Angry Bird playing device. :-) It's cool for aps and watching things. I prefer to read on the regular kindle, but H likes to read just fine on the fire.
Yes I own both. I use my Fire as a tablet, and read on my regular Kindle. I don't care to read on my Fire since it strains my eyes, but I love both of them equally!
