A friend of mine is having a Thirty-One gifts party. Not my style at all but the time works out well for me to be able to go and DH to stay home with the baby so I'm going.
Anyone have something from them that they like? It just seems very cutesy to me and overpriced (I'd rather have something plain from the Container Store).
I know I don't HAVE to buy something but, really, I will.
I went to my friend's a few weeks ago. I wasn't planning to buy anything, but then I was the only person to show up besides her mom and MIL, so I felt obligated. :\
I got a lunch tote and a wristlet (the wristlet was at a promotional price.) I do like my lunch tote, although I think it was overpriced. It's cute. I'm going to pick up my wristlet this afternoon, so we'll see.
I got a pretty neutral print. It's like beige with some white squiggles. Pretty inoffensive, and not too cutesy, IMO.
I think Thirty-One is totally fug. Vera Bradley I can handle (not a popular opinion on this board, I know) but not Thirty-One.
At my first Thirty-One party I was obligated to buy (it was a charity fundraiser) so I purchased a set of personalized notecards. Whatever you do, do not buy personalized notecards. They are on a coated paper so that your writing smudges easily no matter what pen you use, and it wasn't clear from the catalog that ALL notecards come with these really ugly gray envelopes, no matter what color cards you order. It was truly one of my worst purchases ever.
I know people who love it; it's NMS but to each her own. I just have to give the PSA to stay away from the stationery because the quality is poor.
I ordered the travel jewelry holder/wrap thingy and am pretty happy with it. I was in a similar situation as others here -- was invited to a party and felt obligated to by something.
I love the insulated lunch tote. I bought DD the drawstring backpack and it is great for overnight visits. I really want some of the utility totes to use in the trunk so things don't slide all over the place.
I love my large utility tote. I use it for grocery runs and for weekends away. It's a great way to pack my kid's blankets and stuffed animals. I seem to use it weekly. I also have a weekender tote thing that's good to hold a 3-4 day weekend of stuff.
For Christmas, I got a thing that holds your hair straightener when traveling. One pocket holds the hot part, and the other the cord. I really like it, it's a good idea. Previously, I wrapped mine in an old washcloth, this is prettier.
I feel like everyone I know is selling/having a party, etc lately... I don't really care for 31 but have ordered a few things out of obligation. I like the travel jewelry roll up thing and used it a lot on vacations. I also have a wrist fob for my keys that was only like $5 but is kind of nice to have. My MIL got me a lunch tote for Christmas last year and I use that pretty frequently.
My MIL is always getting sucked into these parties, and then she wants to get me something to support her friends. I usually ask for a fabric storage box in black and white. They're not my favorite, but they are the colors I want and live in the closet!
Thanks. I think I might get something like the Large Utility Tote or Super Organizing Tote. I have a lot of craft stuff but no dedicated crafting space and it's all just stuffed into random free reusable grocery bags so perhaps one of those would work for consolidating everything.
I really dislike obligation parties but this is otherwise a great opportunity to see some friends sans baby so the price will be worth it, lol.

My girls each carry their lunches in cinch it up thermal totes from 31. My only real complaint about them is the drawstring opening is too small for my divided Glad containers to fit comfortably (I can get them in but the kids have trouble getting them out without help). Other than that they hold a full lunch with room to spare and fit into backpacks a little better than the rectangular lunchboxes the girls used to have. DD #1 also has a cinch sack...her second one. The first fell apart (not good) but 31's customer service replaced it no questions asked (which I do like), so I can't complain. And I was given an organizing utility tote as a gift. Don't love the pattern, it's a little bright and busy for me, but it's been pretty useful in the kitchen. I keep file folders inside, and the pockets hold pens, pencils, erasers, and other things I may need when dealing with paperwork.
