Well, in about 30 minutes we leave to start the apartment hunt. Should be interesting. We know what our housing allowance is, so are hoping to find something we like for less than that.
From what we're hearing now that we are here, transit to/from the base is less than ideal, so we might end up having to have DH drive to and from work. Not what we wanted, but we have at least found out that there is a gas station on the one base nearest the one DH will be working at. Gas station on base == paying roughly US prices for gas, which is good for our budget, especially as it looks like we will be using more gas than previously expected.
I've got two appointments with apartment locators today. We are mandated to go thru an approved apartment locator - the housing office on base has a list of 9 that we can use. Hopefully one of them can find what we need.
Priority number one is to find a place to live. I'm sick of being in hotels. I've spent over 25 of the last 30 days in hotels, and we won't get into our own place until we've found it, had it and the lease inspected by the housing office, and go thru a couple more hoops.

Good luck! I have NEVER heard of the housing office inspecting a lease. Maybe because of the currency difference? We didn't have to have anyone look at anything, even though we are "technically" overseas, so this is intriguing to me!
I suspect it's because we're overseas. They couldn't have cared less when we were moving within the US, but now that we're in Korea, they want to look over the lease, and, apparently, the apartment itself (according to yesterday's briefing, they'll be looking over both, as in, reading the lease and physically going to the apartment...).
Saw four places this morning. One was great, but too far away. The middle two were too small, but in a good location. The last one was decent, but farther away than we initially wanted, but we might be willing to settle on that distance.

Interesting. It is so weird being overseas but not (we are in AK). The rules are so funky
Saw two more places this afternoon. One of them looked really good. I think we're going to go with it, although we have one more realtor appointment tomorrow. Once we're done that meeting, though, we'll make our decision.
The place this afternoon was almost good enough I'm tempted to blow off the appointment tomorrow...
