So, my mom and I went shopping with Li. She needed new work clothes and I bought some stuff too. We spent $300 combined (not trying to sound weird, it will make sense in a minute). At one point, she was handing me jewelry to look at and Liam got fussy so I put it on top of the stroller and picked him up then looked at the jewelry and put back whatever we didn't like. Anyway, when we were leaving the fucking security thing went off. I looked back and said, "Are we ok?" and this guy that just checked us out came rushing over and searched the stroller and made me flip out my pockets and dump out the diaper bag. SERIOUSLY? We just spent $300 at your fucking store, but you think I'm stealing a $20 necklace? What the actual fuck.
/rant. Am I in the wrong here? I was very nice to him and let him look in the stroller because I really thought I might have forgotten one up on the tray thing but then he was like, "What about the bag...?" WHAT? It was such a PITA to empty out the giant diaper bag not to mention embarrassing as hell to be in that situation while holding my baby. Ugh.
We should have. My mom was worried they left a tag on her work pants haha "Well, check the things!! I don't want to get home and have a tag on something!"
Overkill. He needed to get over himself. I would have been irked and returned everything for being treated like that.
Something similar happened to me at the grocery. Before L could sit in the cart I would carry a basket and push him in the stroller. Needless to say the damn basket was heavy. One time I put 2 gallons of baby water in the bottom of the stroller. I forgot about it when checking out. the cashier next to me saw it and said " Are you going to BUY the water?". I was all " OMG I totally forgot that was in there". Which I legitimately did. But then I realized her tone and said " Ummm...I'm totally not trying to steal two 89 cent gallons of water, your tone was uncalled for".
I worked at an Aeropostale for a little while and we were always told we were not allowed to ask someone to empty their bags or pockets and we could never accuse them of stealing. We were allowed to check their bag from our store to "check that we didn't leave a security tag on" I would have been livid and i would have refused to empty by diaper bag. That sucks. Sorry you had to deal with that butt hole.
Most major companies would allowbyoubto be that aggressive. However I have physically chased people before while I worked retail. Ibthinkbitbwas over kill for sure sense you guys were obviously buying things.

I was so pissed. I looked at him like, SERIOUSLY? But he just kept staring at me so I just thought whatever. I said "Oh look, FORMULA! Oh nooo... a bottle. More wipes! A diaper! Just a bunch of baby stuff in here.." Ass hat

I am pretty sure he is not allowed to search you and your personal belongings. That seems wrong to me. I would have refused and returned everything I bought in the store.
I would call and speak to the store manager. You should not be treated that way. If it were me I would go to their facebook page and describe what you just told us. I guarantee you get a gift card out of it.

This is a good idea. I don't have facebook, but I'll email them for sure. I was so freaking embarrassed

If I were you I would file a complaint. That is so embarrassing and not to mention you guys just spent a good bit of the money at THEIR store. I would be livid and probably ask for a damn refund and to speak to a manager.
The hilarious thing is that he was making small talk with me the whole time like he wasn't searching my shit. "Oh, wow, babies need lots of things.." "Oh that's such a cute jacket.." UM yeah WTF go away dick head. That might be why my mom was genuinely confused about the whole thing. She was mad I was "sassy" with him.
What he did was illegally search you. It is not cool at all and he can lose his job over that.
***Ouiser's iPhone was here***
See, I think he did a really good job of straddling the fine line between the two. Because he never was like, "GIVE ME YOUR PURSE" He just said, "Oh did something maybe fall in here..?" And looked at me like... bitch you're guilty if you don't let me look. I was waiting for him to say oh it's okay but he never did so it made me uncomfortable. Butttt, technically he never asked, ya know? I probably could have (and should have) just walked away.
Agree with pp's call the manager, make a complaint. I have been putting things in the bottom of the stroller lately and honestly I never even thought twice. Where the heck else am I going to put it if it's just me. I will be more self conscious about it now. Good luck, let us know what they say.

LOL. This sounds like my mom. She hates it when I question " authority". I wonder if it is a generational thing? I just don't like dipshits walking all over me. What he did was wrong and lacked common sense.
I worked in retail for a big chunk of my life and we weren't allowed to ever do something like that. Hell, Macy's doesn't even stop you if you use a stolen credit card.
"Don't be sassy Alyssa!" "What? How am I being sassy? Why would that guy make me empty my bag?" "Oh, I dunno, he just thought there was a tag on something..." "He thought there was a tag on something in my BAG?" "Oh, just relax. Let's go to BabyGap"
A few years ago I bought a pair of jeans at Abercrombie. I came in the store with the bag because they left the damn sensor on it. The jeans were on sale and I wanted another pair so I was crouched down on the floor getting my size. A guy that worked there came up to me and in a harassing manner told me he had to take my bag because it wasn't allowed. WTF. He made me feel like a criminal. I flipped out. Here I was back in their store due to their stupid error and spending MORE money. I emailed corporate and never heard anything.
