Don't have one but DH and I were talking about getting two and taking up target practice as a hobby before the girls moved in with us. His step-father was a skeet-shooter (mom did points and he traveled with them) and my dad hunted and used to take me out to the range for target practice. It was fun to do. But with the girls in the house I'm reluctant to have guns, even if we'd have them in a gun safe with trigger locks and the ammunition stored separately. Not until they're older and we have them trained to our satisfaction to not be stupid around stuff.
I grew up with guns in my home (Small hand guns, my step-dad was a collector - no bullets were ever in the house) However I have never and will never own a gun
H has two shotguns for hunting, and one pistol that was his grandfathers. They're not kept at our house.
He also collects and restores vintage pieces, he has two right now, he basically just makes them pretty - they're not restored for use. We don't have any ammo for those.
I grew up in a home where we never had one and I married an avid gun collector/carrier. The first few years of our marriage (ironically when we didnt have kids) it gave me quite a bit of concern just because it was "different" than what I knew growing up. H is an avid hunter, target shooter, has some very rare and antique guns passed down in his family etc. They all live in a 6 foot gun safe that even I cant open (its not that he hasnt showed me how but it he combination is very hard to do -- its not like your normal locker lock! and I never can get it)
He also carries a concealed weapon. He owned a large family business with his dad (about 120 employees -- construction industry) and was always having to go to bad parts of town to check on jobs, pick up checks, and just the unstable employee drama was enough that I was happy he was prepared if need be. We also live in a city that consistently stays on top of the "most violent/murder capital of the world" so we arent going down without a fight.
I was the first person to answer "more than a dozen" last night.......
We have two guns in our house. One is some kind of pistol (I'm not up to date with my gun vocabulary) that is not in working condition. H used to take it to the range with his friends but it has been broken now for about six years. The other is an old hunting rifle that H's grandfather left to him when he died. H has never used it and doesn't hunt anymore.

Combined, we have about a dozen or more. I carry a small handgun, we have four other handguns located strategically throughout the house. We practice with all of them often. The "cowboy" ones, the revolvers, are very fun to shoot. We each own a classic small caliber rifle for "plinking," or just fun, cheap target practice. H has two shotguns, ones for hunting and one for shooting clays. I have one shotgun that does both. He has a hunting rifle and an SKS that was made in the early 1950s. I have an AR-15 that I really enjoy shooting but the ammunition is rising in price. We each own a bow, and have multiple knives. Amazingly, none have been stolen, misplaced, misused, nor have ever killed anyone. (ETA, this is TIC as we are very responsible with ours and take measures to ensure none of these happen.)
All of them, minus the home-defense ones, are locked in a safe when not in use. So between two people and hunting, sport shooting, and home defense, it's very understandable to have over a dozen.
H has a handgun and 2 shotguns. He has a concealed carry permit. I need to go take a class so I know how to use it if I have to, I think having them and not knowing how to use it is dangerous but has got them while I was pregnant and I felt weird shooting guns while pregnant so I haven't taken it.
He works with one guy who has a gun collector permit and has TONS of guns. Actually I think that's who he bought 2 of his from. Another one of his coworkers is preparing for an apocalypse. He was cleaning his gun and his 10 yo asked why he has so many guns. The guy told him it was for zombies. He actually believes in a zombie apocalypse and tells his kid this. DH works with some weirdos.
I've never once considered getting a gun unless it was some beautiful antique lady pearl-handled gun, but only because they are really neat looking and I could tuck it into my bosom. Unloaded, of course.
You could use it to stave off any untoward gentlemen callers while sitting in your parlor.

DH has a shotgun and a rifle for hunting. I think he also has a muzzel loader. They are all locked in a safe, ammo in a separate safe. He's the only one who knows where the keys are.
We have talked about getting a hand gun that will be kept locked in a safe that you need a fingerprint to get in to. I plan on taking a gun safety course soon. I want to learn about using a gun since we have them in the house.
H has several. He's a hunter and a target shooter. With the exception of one, they are all in a safe in the the basement. The exception is a pistol in our bedroom that is in a pistol safe in the closet. Only he and I can open it.
I just told DH that I am going to get my own gun and take the course on how to properly use it.
He works out of town so much and I am home alone with the kids probably 75% of nights. Sometimes I get nervous and it would be nice to know that I could do more than hide in a closet with a cell phone if something were to happen. If it came down to a psycho or my kids, you do what you have to do, right?
He was teasing me, not thinking that I was being serious, that I was going to put a sticker on the door that says "This house protected by Smith & Wesson". He thought I was joking, but it is something I am seriously looking into.

We do. DH has a pistol, revolver, and a couple rifles. He also a a conceal carry permit. I grew up around the military and DH is prior military so it really doesn't bother me. I go to the range with him occasionally and know how to shoot but don't really feel the need to have my own.
I cannot come up with a single reason why someone would need a dozen or more guns.
I thought this was an excellent question, and reading it here gave me a good reason to ask H. He had to write it down to remember each one.
.45- Hunting sidearm and target .40- Home defense and target .22 Rifle- Target .223- Coyote and boar 8mm- Deer and a gift from my grandfather 20ga bolt- first gun. Gift from his grandfather 20ga pump- Daughter's first gun 12ga pump- Bird gun and clays 12ga semi- gift from my grandfather
I can't help but to think people who carry on them are trigger happy. I AM SURE this is the wrong thing to think, but in a dangerous situation, you're always going to pull out your gun, right? I can't help but to think of Trayvon Martin. Probably an extreme example, but Keith Zimmerman is another crazy man that never should have had a gun.
H grew up hunting and was shot in a hunting accident when he was 13. He still enjoys target shooting on very rare occasions, but really has no interest in owning a gun.
We do have a pellet gun that looks like an impressive hand gun that we keep if we need to scare off intruders, but that's the extent of it
None and will never have them. Neither of us grew up around guns so I have a very healthy fear of them. It makes me twitchy to even think of one in my house. My dad has one because he lives on a farm and once in awhile they have rabid animals that threaten his livestock. Even knowing that each time we visit I make him tell me where the gun is locked up, confirm ammo is not in it etc etc. I hate thinking of Jack around it so I always make sure my dad wasn't careless and just put it on a shelf or something.
