We would only do employment checks on whatever the candidate listed. It would verify the company name and dates of employment. But like you said some are more in depth. I'm not familiar with like a database that would show everywhere you worked though.
On your resume, put "selected jobs" or "relevent work experience" and leave off the bad job. But, if/when you are asked to fill out an application or paperwork with your last three employer 's information you should include the last place you worked and if they ask if they can contact the previous employer, say no.
Also you may be asked about gaps in employment so if you don't list that job just be aware. Working moms board on TB may be a good resource for this question too. Good luck!!

True. I think it just comes up with criminal information. However, if they specifically ask for your previous x number of employeers and you don't tell them about it you could leave yourself open to being fired later for falsifying/withholding information or misrepresenting yourself. It's not likely that would happen but you shouldn't leave yourself open to the possibility.
I like the idea of listing 'relevant work experience' and that way you can leave it out with no lies.
I know where I work, I have a comprehensive check done and had to account for all breaks etc (they visited my parents and my neighbours etc to check if I lived where I said, if they thought i was responsibile etc). If I had left out a job, I would have been in trouble had they found out!
This the same for me, but I had to fill out a separate document about 10 pages for it once I was a candidate for employment. It was not compared to my resume or employment application.
I agree don't omit on actual application, it could be considered falsifying info and grounds for being fired.
