One of my bffs called me yesterday and invited us last minute to join them skiing this weekend. It will be her, her H, her sister and sisters SO. They are going regardless but have extra room so we could go.
I think it would be fun, and we don't live in the same city so we only get together twice a year at most. Last time I saw her was over the summer.
On the MM side of things, we don't really have a fun money budget right now. We go out to eat a few times each month and other fun money is just going towards house repair stuff right now, so this would be a pretty big splurge and I would cut back on food/eating out for a while.
Also, we don't have the right gear for this and obviously we don't have time to find deals online to order. We have long underwear, good gloves, hats, I have snow pants but H doesn't. Neither of us has a windbreaker or athletic type winter coat. What gear would we need to get? Any suggestions for where to go for some good deals?
Are your friends regular skiers? I'd see if they have some gear you can borrow (if you are around the same size for coats/pants, etc.). Most skiers have multiples of things like ski gloves, jackets, pants and such, and possibly even old skis and boots you could use. Otherwise, renting skis and boots is the best bet for that stuff.
I used to ski every winter as a kid and was pretty good. I haven't been in 10 years though. H is probably not as good as I am. I think we'll at least be on green circles and blue squares, I don't expect to get back to anything more than that.
I'm in western PA and have access to a lot of stores and outlets. I'm not sure if we have Columbia, I'll check. We do have an REI close.
I would go but I never pass up a trip. When we went to Vail last year, we rented ski clothes from Mountain Threads and were very happy. I think it is like $15 a day to rent a ski jacket. They delivered to the resort because we didn't have a car but you can pick it up yourself to save some money. You can also ask your friends if they have anything for you guys to borrow.
Wow, I had no idea about clothing rental. Also, duh my friend is my size so I will ask her if she has an extra coat. H is not the same size as her H though.
Yeah we live in Texas and it was our first time so we had nothing. The stuff was really good quality and new too! If you rent the whole package (jacket, pants, gloves) for 3 days, it is like $80 with delivery.
It's also completely fine not to ski. I love when non-skiers join for weekdends. There's tubing and fun at the lodge. And its always great to have someone saving seats at happy hour!
