I've posted about this cat and her issues before, it hasn't ever gone away but did get better.
The perpetrator: soon to be 3 yo DSH spayed female, we found her as a 5-6 week old abandoned kitten
The crime: She will urinate on soft surfaces, mainly in the hallway, laundry room, and bathroom. Occasionally the closet. We have never found evidence anywhere else in the house. Can be clothes, towels, bathmat, toilet paper, etc. Clean, dirty, damp, dry doesn't seem to matter. She will get in the laundry basket, hamper, dryer, on the tub edge, etc. You can tell that she is fully aware that she is doing something that she shouldn't and she is also a very smart cat.
She has multiple boxes available, we have tried different litter with no help. We've tried cat attract which seems to help a small bit but doesn't alleviate the problem. We've used the pheromone warmers (forget the name) and didn't notice any change.
We have had her to the vet for a full work up and they kept her for 3 days to get a clean catch urine without being invasive and everything came back clear.
No diet change. This really only started after we moved in to the new house (September 2011) and has been happening off and on since then.
Any suggestions would be great because I'm really getting to my wits end here. I shouldn't be concerned about my bathroom if a guest leaves the door open, or the dryer while I'm taking a load to the closet.

Where is her litterbox? And where is it in relation to the areas she uses? Is she using the box at all? Also, is the box covered- some cats hate covered boxes. (Mine did, and peed ON the cover. I got the hint)
Maybe you can try a few days of intensive retraining? I was looking for some articles, and found this one- it seems a bit long, but this might be something you can discuss with your vet or a behaviorist on the best way to handle it.
She has one box in the laundry room (middle of the first floor) and one in the basement. One covered one not, doesn't seem to care either way. Uses the box probably about 75% of the time. Unfortunately we can't really move the box that is upstairs, it's an open floor plan so it would be out in the middle of the kitchen / dining room and she's a scratcher so she aggressively scratches the box / surroundings for 3-5 minutes after wards
