Here is my living room (ignore the colorful kid thing on the left by the buffet table, that's gone). I love the rug and the curtains. I'm over the decor on the wall (the two framed generic painting things on each side of the window). What would you put there? I'm at a loss.
How abput that metal art you tried to get me to buy the other day? I think it would look great there! I like the concept of what you have, I just think it needs to be a bit wider and longer. What about some wooden arch carvings/art for some texture? Vertical frames with BabyWop photos?
Candle sconces could be pretty too. Are you into subway art at all? It is the only word art I like and would be a great size. It might not be bad just plain either if you have another wall decorated. Esp. if you change the pillows for something with color and pattern. We all know i am on a plain kick lately though.
well my walls are covered with pics of my kids so that's what I would put there. Do you have any nice pics of your kid(s) you can frame? (and this is assuming the kid thing in the picture belongs to a kid of yours....)
Here's the buffet table wall. I've got a lot going on. I plan on redoing this stuff later, but it'll give you an idea of what else is going on in the room (it's an old pic, and there are actually family photos in the frames now and I took the candles off the buffet). And the pics on the buffet have doubled.
Are you at all interested in moving the shelves by the windows? Or moving the metal thing to one side of the window then the shelves stacked together on the other side? Then on the buffet wall you could do one bigger picture/print/canvas?
Dairy, I agree that what is there now is insignificant. It needs...oomph. I've really been wanting to add some orange or coral to the room, I just can't find anything I love. I know the throw pillows on the couch are blah. They need to go.
The shelves are permanent. DH refuses to move them. They are heavy duty bolted to the wall. The man doesn't care what else I do with the house, but he refuses to let me move those shelves right now. LOL.
Speaking of those shelves/buffet table wall....what if I got rid of the swirl piece, added a more colorful art piece, added some photo ledges, and restyled the buffet without pics on it?
Wop! Those dog pics rock! If you do two on a side theyd be good. I like your theory for the shelf wall. I hear you on the shelves. There are two things in my house a set of mirrors and a coat rack that arent coming down ever. Theyre like metal anchored and pole barn spiked in. H will kill me just for asking.

What about DIY canvases? Just buy them long and skinny (not sure what they have at the store) and paint them a coral gradient? Or cover them with fabric.
I agree with the pillows as well. It has a great base, though.
I always think about DIY canvas art, but I worry it'll look dumb as I'm not an overly artistic/crafty person. It's a great idea. I should just try it. I might surprise myself.

IMO, it's a beautiful room already, but a pop of color is a great idea. What if you DIY a colorful wreath? I have a DIY yarn wreath on one of my walls and I really like it.

Wop, just jump in! If it fails, all you have lost is a little money and a little time. Get a cheap canvas from Michael's (they have sales! Or HL has their coupons), 2 containers of acrylic paint (Wal-Mart is cheapest but HL will have a better color selection -- if you do gradient, just buy the darkest coral and a white, and a paint brush.
I have stuff to do some DIY art for my workspace, but I haven't done it yet because you need a table to have a workspace and I haven't gotten a table yet.
You're right emo. I've got plenty of space, we have an entire wall of work bench in the basement and I don't care if it gets messy! (it's unfinished anyway)
I also think the dog art is cool. I also love dogs, so I'm biased. Definitely two on each side.
But I really suggest trying some DIY canvas art. It is really cheap and if you don't like it, you paint over and start again. You could stencil them with a cool stencil. Martha Stewart has some modern ones that I got and have used in multiple places. It was a way to get the modern prints with very limited commitment.
