Hi ladies! I will be in San Francisco March 9-11 (Saturday through Monday). H has a conference at the Moscone Center, so I will be on my own for a few days. Anyone want to GTG? ESF? I am drawing a blank on who else lives in SF (other than volenti, God rest her nest soul).
Also, we haven't booked our flights yet, but we'll probably stay in the area through the week. It's my spring break, bitches! We have only been to SF very briefly. It is a great city, but I'm not sure we'll want to spend an entire week there. Other ideas? We've been to Napa, and I'm totally down with doing it again, but I'm not sure H is on board with this idea. What else is within a few hours' drive (we will rent a car when we leave the city)? Monterey, Big Sur? What do you recommend? Also, what is the weather like in these areas in mid-March? I'm expecting SF to be about the same as when we were there in June a few years ago, 55 degrees and drizzly.
What else have you done in the city? There are all the museums (de Young, Asian Art, MOMA, etc.); the Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers, and bison pen in Golden Gate Park; going over the GGB and getting a photo opp at the Marin Headlands, plus exploring the cute Tiburon/Sausalito areas; Alcatraz...
Nothing. We drove up the coast from LA to Napa with some friends a few years ago, but we just stopped in SF for the day. We did spend a few hours at Muir Woods, which was amazing. I will definitely be hitting up all manner of city museums and attractions while we're there!

I always recommend Healdsburg for wine tasting...cute little town square--a bunch of tasting rooms-- you can walk around and get drunk off tastings and then stumble back to a hotel. It's my version of a perfect day ;D

I agree with Healdsburg. We were just there last weekend and we love it. If you do that, stop at a winery in Santa Rosa on your way called Battaglini. It's small and charming. The owner lives on the vineyard and comes out to the tasting room from his house when he sees your car pull up. He's an older Italian man. If it's a nice day, bring a picnic and eat it at the picnic table overlooking his vineyard. Love that place.
We are tentatively planning to go to SF and Napa that week. We were going to go the week before for the Napa marathon but I don't think I trained well enough to run it as planned. I'd love to meet up with you ladies if I'm there.

I highly recommend Carmel (we really preferred that to Monterey which seemed overly crowded and touristy when we were there for a day), and/or Big Sur. We drove down Highway 1 to get there which was a beautiful drive in and of itself. We stayed in a little cute inn in Carmel and walked everywhere. They have lots of neat shops and yummy restaurants. We also did 17 Mile Drive, went to Point Lobos to hike for the morning, and then one day we dedicated to a Big Sur trip (favorite part of our CA vacation!)
We stopped at a couple state parks (went to Andrew Molera and Julia Pfeiffer Burns to see McWay falls) and also spent an hour or so at Pfeiffer Beach (gorgeous beach with purple sand!). The sights in Big Sur are just breathtaking. It was about an hour's drive or so from Carmel. The road there is very narrow and windy at times, plus we would pull off for photo ops. It was the perfect day trip.
Ohhhhh I wanna gtg !! Esf can testify I'm not a creeper
Totally not a creeper!
RBP, if your H is in a conference over the weekend, what about a Sunday brunch? I will volunteer to find a place with good breakfast beverages.
That will probably be great! I'll get back to you when I know his schedule for sure. Thanks for the offer for touristy suggestions, I will send you an e-mail soon!
